    Were/are you scared to start?

I have my doubts but after a year and a half of preparing, it's now or never! I've sacrificed a lot to get to where I am now, a month or less away from hitting the road. <br /><br />One reason I got a motorhome instead of keeping the nice 99 F150 I had and going with a travel trailer is so I can...

Check out my new future home.

Nice one! Looks a bit cramped by the cabinets though? But so is mine in the little hallway between the galley and the bed. Hopefully you'll get double digit mpg though with a roof that tall.<br /><br />I'm actually considering eventually pulling out the generator from mine (it has it's own...

Interesting way to get bank account/paypal with zero money

Why would you need a bank account if you have no money?

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

It's 14 days at once. But then they have a 30 day limit per year as well, per campground I think. So the most you can do is 14 days, then you have to leave for 48 hours or whatever the time is they require you to be gone, go back for 14 days, leave for 48 hours, come back for 2 days, then you...

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

Yes, I know of Watsonville. I suspect the cops don't care as much there since it's not a tourist town. It's more agricultural due to all the farmland around it. I do know the cops do patrol there a lot though.. or did 14 years ago. Or maybe my mom just had back luck (sort of) once. <br><br>She...

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

Hmm, it seems a lot has changed in 14 years there. (Damn, it's been THAT LONG?! <img src="/images/boards/smilies/eek.gif" class="emoticon bbc_img" title="Eek -">). The old homeless services center appears to be a residential house now, if I'm looking at the right place on Google Street...

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

I've been to Monterey and San Francisco. I spent a few months homeless in Santa Cruz in 1999. At the time, you could be homeless there a lot better than now from what I've read. Now it's a lot worse... but that goes for much of the country in general I think.<br><br>At the time, my mom and I...

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

Yeah, Long Beach might be a good idea. Sadly, those of use with actual RVs can't use the $30/mo overnight beach parking.<br><br>"<span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;">RV parking, unattached trailers, oversized vehicles, and overnight camping are prohibited in all beach...

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

I don't know. I've never been there aside from the bus and train stations while passing through.<br><br>I've done a bit of reading and know that East and South LA is bad news for sure. For the dough being saved not being in high priced RV parks in the area, I don't mind blowing a few gallons of...

Is stealth a big deal in a city like Los Angeles?

What about my van (class B motorhome)? Take note that the missing/damaged compartment doors have been fixed. I just don't have good up-to-date photos. These were taken before I bought it.<br><br>I wouldn't leave it parked in a single place for days... and I'd try to pick safe'ish areas to...

Is it paranoid to think someone might want to steal my dog?

The problem is, it can be 65 degrees out and people are ready to bust in your windows...<br><br>It might not be a bad idea to tape a piece of paper to both front windows (on the inside) with your cell phone number so MAYBE people will call you if they are upset about it before they go busting in...

Is it paranoid to think someone might want to steal my dog?

I am pondering getting a dog and I mostly worry about the risk that somebody might bust in the window to "rescue" it. I plan to stay out of hot climates, however. But even at 80-85 degrees, it CAN get up to 100+ degrees inside if closed up. But... I have a screened roof vent, I can run fans and...

    Harbor Freight Solar Panels

Looks like a crazy overpriced set of panels with a box that consists of batteries and an inverter.

    Harbor Freight Solar Panels

Damn! The old battery is shot... this morning my CO detector went off which is odd since I have nothing with a standing pilot. I got it back to showing 0 again and stayed inside for hours.. it never went off again. Fast forward about 6 hours. I was out much of the day and came back, nothing...

    Harbor Freight Solar Panels

It's barely been used. It has sat mostly without any care. It may very well be that the newer, smaller Wal-Mart marine battery is doing all the work now, which might account for why it seems like the battery bank isn't holding as much charge as it was a month ago. It may not by holding as well...

Internet and Mobile Devices for Mobile People

I scored a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $230 from WalMart with 2 year warranty and tax. They still sell for $330 normally (before tax)! It's not "outdated" per say. It was just an oddball clearance deal I found at a local store. I'm quite happy with it so far.

    Harbor Freight Solar Panels

It's too bad there seems to be no 100W to 200W Renogy panel deals on ebay right now. Two 100W panels for just under $300 shipped was pretty cheap when I got them back around April or May.<br><br>EDIT: I take that back! <br><br>Here's a 100W Renogy panel just like I have... $150 shipped...

FOUND IT, THE VAN ! !

I wanted one of those roof vent fans but I have a 9x9 vent and I'm too chicken to try to cut through the layers of roof in my motorhome (fiberglass roof and ceiling) to make it bigger, so I had a new 9x9 vent put in since the RV shop wouldn't cut the hole bigger either.

    Harbor Freight Solar Panels

My roof is fiberglass. I got some 3M 9469 VHB double sided tape (1" width, 6" long strips) and some aluminum L brackets on ebay. <br><br>I slightly loosely assembled the brackets to the panels and lined things up how I wanted them. Next, I applied the VHB tape to the bottom of one bracket at a...

    Harbor Freight Solar Panels

Hmm, maybe my batteries are worse off than I thought. How low are you letting your batteries drain? You aren't supposed to more than 50% (about 12.06V) generally. If you have true deep cycles like Trojans or 6V golf cart batteries, they can be discharged further. Do you have an inverter/dorm...
