    Sunnytrack app

One problem I often encounter when camping in the forest is figuring out where to park so the solar panels get the most sun. There is an app called Sunnytrack that helps find the best spot. It costs $6.99 on Playstore but is well worth it for where I summer camp.

    Kotatsu, interesting idea for heat

As an exchange student living in Japan in 1969 I discovered the kotatsu. What a great idea! Never thought about using one in an RV or while sitting around outside but I think it would be great. A Buddy heater or a all in one diesel heater should do the trick as a heat source. Check it out.

Inverters you have owned over the years

I bought my first inverter around 1987, a 60 watt Tripp light square wave inverter. Not a modified sine wave but an actual square wave inverter that used TO3 power transistors. Not enough peak voltage to power the auto degousing coil in my 13" CRT TV. A series of modified sine wave inverter s...

    Oregon Star Party

https://www.opb.org/article/2021/05/13/its-a-star-party-in-eastern-oregon/ The Star Party is a great event for anyone interested in astronomy. It's not free but there are plenty of good boondocking spots near where it's held in the Ochoco Mountains. It used to be held on Steens Mountain where...

    Bread machine

Does anyone use a bread machine? Have any good recipes?  I like bread and I like to boondock in remote locations so getting fresh bread isn't easy unless I make it myself. Now I carry a bread machine and it works great. For the first 2 hours it runs off the 750 watt inverter then for the 1 hour...

    Alvord Desert in SE Oregon

I want to suggest the Alvord desert as a unique place to get away from it all. About 6 miles by 12 miles of flat hard playa to camp on so never any shortage of room. BLM land, no fees. Drinking water spring. Hot springs. 9700' Steen's mountain. There is now an outhouse and garbage cans at Frog...

Home in Oregon, winters in AZ.

Newish to this forum but not new to van/camper living. I own a house in Oregon but spend winters in AZ living in my camper. My rig is a 24 year old Toyota pickup that I bought new, with a home built camper with a 53 year old all steel pop top that I salvaged from a 1964 Ford Travelwagon van. I...

    Avenza Maps

I've been using an app called Avenza Maps on my Android phone. It uses the GPS to pinpoint your location on a map and can draw a line where you have been. There are several free BLM maps of the Quartzsite area that I've found useful for exploring the area. I also use the app for forest service...

    Alamo Lake and Bouse Arizona

I'm pretty new to the site and noticed that there isn't much information on two of my favorite boondocking areas, Alamo Lake and Bouse. Alamo Lake has plenty of nice boondocking sites with easy access, fishing, hiking, ATV trails, and lots of wildlife. Gas, and propane are available at Wayside...
