Heating a Van with a Propane Lantern?

Been using my Coleman two burner propane lanten in my tent for both heat and light, and it's done a nice job. The sound and the light bring back good memories and are both reassuring at some basic level to me. Seems to burn very cleanly. Anyone been using one as the main heat source in a van...

Refilling Coleman bottles from a 5 pound tank?

I picked up a Mr. Heater adapter at Menards, a digital scale at Walmart, and set about filling some Coleman bottles using the procedure I found in this youtube video... ...a very safe, effective and straighforward approach. Worked well and as he described. The tank was probably about 3/4...

Refilling Coleman bottles from a 5 pound tank?

A minivan. Way too small for me, but it's what I have to work with at this time. I mostly camp out with a cabin tent and sleep in the van. Just recently got a Mr. Heater, and it's been great. Go back and forth with it to the tent. When I leave my tent for any length of time, I take...

Refilling Coleman bottles from a 5 pound tank?

Been watching lots of youtube videos on refilling the 1 pound bottles, and would like to give it a go. Lots of contradictory information, as always, but I thiink I have a handle on what to do and how at this point. However, in every video and in every discusssion I've come across, a 20 pound...

So I looked at a van today - YIKES!

This is so true.  It should be in big red letters at the heading of this forum.

Is it better to get all cordless tools, with 12 volt charger to...

A few years ago, I'd have agreed with this.  But the times, they are a changin' when it comes to cordless tools.  They flat out kick ass now a days.

    Frozen locks

I just used the Walmart lock de-icer listed above on a padlock yesterday morning. Been using them for years.  Excellent for vehicle doors after an icy rain.  Cost less than $3 in store.  I get a new one every year as the propellant leaks out over time and makes them useless.

Is it better to get all cordless tools, with 12 volt charger to...

Update on my cordless tool situation.  The weak point in the Ryobi 18V lineup (for me) was the circular saw.  Now I have the brushless 7 1/4" circular saw paired up with the new 9Ah battery, and this thing gets the job done like a corded saw (adding a Diablo blade is a good idea!). Also picked...

Useful YouTube series from a veteran mechanic

I've watched Scotty's videos for years and have learned a lot from him. He's very prejudiced against certain car companies to an almost ridiculous extent. Loves his Toyotas. Some of his advise I consider questionable, but it's by far mostly solid. I think he tries to tell it like it is as best...

    Trailer crash...what went wrong here?

I've never pulled anything this big, so I don't have much of a feel for what went wrong.  Was it just too much speed?

Toyota Sienna owners -- how many miles before you need major repairs?

I think that's a very smart and reasonable assessment of your situation, because there will be break downs, and having to rely on the kindness of strangers is a risky strategy to say the least.

Any advice for this used van im looking at?

I guess you know why it's priced the way it is. They are going to "replace" the trans? Kind of doubt that. Maybe some liquid first aid. I'd pass on the vehicle and the dealership. Plenty of good cargo vans out there.

    Credit score went down?

Three years ago, my FICO 8 score was 585. I knew zero about how it all worked. Today, it's 815.  My financial position is not substantially different than it was three years ago, but I did learn how the credit scoring algorithms work, and exploited them to my benefit.  A lot of it is counter...

Chevy / GMC paint peeling years?

Sorry Ranger, but just because your body shop guy says it's so and some website I've never heard of mentions it does not make it true.   I'm looking out on my 19 year old Ford that I polished up last week, and it looks like it just came off the showroom floor.  And it's lived outside it's whole...

Chevy / GMC paint peeling years?

Where did you come up with the idea that clear coat is only good for 10 years?   Is it only a GM problem-no.  But the GM full size vans seem to have more problems with it than anything else from what I've seen.  By far.

Chevy / GMC paint peeling years?

Quality control is not just about how it looks when it exits the factory. The Express has a lot a things going for it, but the quality of the paint job is obviously not one of them.  Sounds like you should be looking at other vans if it's a major potential issue for you.

Chevy / GMC paint peeling years?

It's not a clear coat problem, it's a factory quality control issue.  The amount of Express vans I see with this problem is amazing.  Has GM decided to fix the issue after all these years?  I guess one has to find that out for themselves over time.  I'm not anti GM-I've had some good ones-but...

Is it better to get all cordless tools, with 12 volt charger to...

I got into the Ryobi 18V tools early on, and there were a disappointment with the old NiCad batteries.  Was going to give up on them, but decided to try the Lithium Ions when they came on the scene, and glad I did.  The difference was night and day.  The only batteries I use for real work are...
