When you're away and it's freezing

Thanks all for your responses. I don't have a long commute to work, I'm really close. I do have electricity, through a power cord strung from the house. I'm actually quite comfortable, although the bus now looks like a cardboard shack from the inside, except with Styrofoam and Reflectix...

When you're away and it's freezing

We're in single digits here in Colorado. I have some food and water in the school bus, which will freeze while I'm away. It might not be a huge deal - I brought the stuff in jars into the house, where I have some limited storage. But I'm curious what other people do in this situation. For...

Ventilation for a Wave 6 in a Bus

I missed the reference to twenty four square inches, thanks for pointing that out. I'd better do a better job of reading the instructions - but then I've just perused them online - I haven't even opened the box for the heater!! Thanks, Bob

Ventilation for a Wave 6 in a Bus

I can't really create the ventilation in the ceiling or on the floor, as it isn't my bus, so I'll go with two windows and a wider than recommended opening. Thanks for the suggestion of the C0 detector, I completely forgot about that.

Ventilation for a Wave 6 in a Bus

I ordered this awhile back, have all the parts for it including the legs, but haven't hooked it up yet, since a small electric space heater has sufficed thus far. However, cold weather is on its way. The manual says "It is good practice to have at least two openings, one high and one low."...

    Ordered Wave 6

You're so right. I'm so cheap, I end up spending a good portion of my patience, and my life, trying to save a buck, which only leaves me older and grumpier. :) I might get some good assistance from a propane store as well, along with the great advice from this forum. Thank you!

    Ordered Wave 6

I ordered the regulator from Amazon, but got a failure notice for the credit card I used. I had tried to use a rebate card that had $60.00 on it. No problem, I figured I'd just change to another card. Amazon's freaking interface wouldn't allow me to change the credit card even though I tried...

    Ordered Wave 6

Wow, thanks all, for the input. I thought I had only the one, initial, reply, based upon one email that I got from the forum. I'm not in an RV - just an old school bus which I'm renting. I did order the legs and the cover, and, based upon advice here, I'll be purchasing a 20 lb propane tank...

    Ordered Wave 6

I ordered the wave 6 heater at Bob's recommendation (another thread). Could someone suggest what tank/fuel source to get? How about the connector? any advice is appreciated.

That's great! I'll consider both options. Thank you!

BLM Campsite near MOAB - suggestions?

Hi, I'm driving to Moab on Thursday and will need a campsite near town. Any suggestions? I may also consider campgrounds that are a little further but aesthetically nice. I don't know Moab at all, except for going there about 22 years ago. Thanks!

    Foam Board Insulation

OK I'll cop to hijacking the thread. But it was innocent... I was telling the story about my experience with the woodstove in the bus. Uh oh, did I just go off on another tangent? :)

    Foam Board Insulation

Thanks, Bob, for the information about the clearance for the Kerosene heater. I don't have that kind of clearance in the bus and I'm considering the Wave 6, but, as usual, internet browsing has me confused. I found one account about the Wave 6 not keeping an RV warm at...

    Foam Board Insulation

Off Grid wrote: A 23k BTU kerosene heater will do you a lot better than the wave 6 and only cost a fraction as much to run. Ok, but what are other pros and cons? Is it safe?

    Foam Board Insulation

I don't think buying a woodstove would be practical for me, but I'm seriously considering the Wave 6. Insulating the windows will be easy. The bus used to be a mobile metal shop and the previous owner, to protect his equipment from theft, installed a double set of horizontal bars on the...

    Foam Board Insulation

Riffraff, good for you, you're getting somewhere, unlike some of us. :) I might scrap the idea of insulation on the outside, what with the curved surface. When you first mentioned the outside insulation, Bob, I figured you had a flat surface. That's quite the accomplishment, though, living...

    Foam Board Insulation

idk, about the flooring, riffraff, but I'm sure someone here will answer. wow thanks all for the advice! I actually thought about insulation on the roof outside, but dismissed it. I may reconsider, given Bob's experience. Tara's idea might work, too. I thought about buying some used...

    Foam Board Insulation

I'm wanting to insulate a school bus that I'm renting in Boulder. The rent is low enough that I could put up to a few hundred bucks into it and would still be ahead, given the cost of living here (don't get me started on that, eventually I'll be outta here). In "Dealing with Heat and Cold,"...

    Hello again

Years ago I posted in this forum and introduced myself. At the time I was disgusted with the cost of housing in Boulder, and thinking of an RV or van. At the time, I was happy to find this forum and also the vandwellers forum on Yahoo.

As the years have...

Car insurance, Possible total loss and $$ for van

You aren't kidding about that. The driver who rear ended my car had Allstate. They tried to claim that it wasn't completely her fault (only 75%) because she was avoiding another driver, someone who was apparently trying to make a lane change. I had to speak with a...
