    Ackidge's Adventures

So the Yeti will power the fridge for about 24 hours.  While I am driving I plug it into the cigarette lighter, & when at a campground I plug into power there.  So it is working well enough for my purposes.  If I were really living in my van I would figure out solar recharging etc. The last...

    Ackidge's Adventures

No, not full time.  Just long weekends in the summer exploring New England.  And planning a 2 week trip to Nova Scotia in August.

    Ackidge's Adventures

So when my bed is open the plywood extension rests on this little shelf. Very happy with how this has turned out.  Once I get to where ever I am going it only takes me about 10 minutes to take out bike & cover, put up curtains, and pull out the bed. I still want to figure out some inexpensive...

    Screen room

I have a 2013 Ford Transit Connect.  I would like to get some kind of screen room that would either attach or snugly fit against the side of the van & also have a secondary door for exit.  I can't seem to find such a thing online.  Most want to attach to a hatchback, not a side sliding door...

They are pretty low. I slept in it this past weekend & it was comfortable.  I have to get some more efficient storage bins for the shelves, but I am really liking it.

    Who's behind your user name

My real name is Judy Widger.  Nickname of Widge a lot of times.  But my screen name is Ackidge. ACK being the call letters for Nantucket where I lived for 20 years. & IDGE is part of my last name.  I have been using the same screen name for almost everything for as long as I can remember.

    Ackidge's Adventures

Progress on my conversion.  My Dometic fridge was on perpetual backorder so ended up with a Norcold.  Still don't have the electrical part figured out yet, but I'll get there. I have built my bed.  Goes across back & is 3' deep. then There is another 3' deep 38" wide piece of plywood I pull...

    Fridge vs Yeti

Also getting a cooler means I need to get something larger than I might need to make sure I have room for the ice in there.  But then not having to deal with the electrical aspects of a fridge.   If my fridge that I have on order was here I wouldn't be having second thoughts.  But I ordered it...

    Bicycles inside the van

I keep my bike in my Ford Transit Connect while driving, then outside at night when my bed is open. It fits across right behind the front seats, turn the front tire sideways & that sits in the lower step where you enter the van door. Works really well for me.

    Fridge vs Yeti

I am in New England. SO yes hot in August, but not out in the desert & away from civilization for days at a time. So torn with the decision!

    Fridge vs Yeti

I have a dometic fridge on order & have been waiting 6 weeks for it.  Beyond frustrating waiting for this.  I am not a full time van dweller.  Just converting a Ford Transit to a small RV for myself.  10 day road trips at the longest.  I am wondering if I should just give up on the fridge idea &...

    2013 Transit Connect Build

I have a rack for my kayak on top, however at 5'3" I may be too short to really keep it up there.  I am in the process of building out my 2013 Transit too.  I am designing it so that I can transport my bike inside.  When parked, the bike goes outside.

I was thinking if the Yeti could run the fridge for a couple of days when I am not plugged in, then I could recharge it when I am plugged in. I am at campgrounds with electrical most of the time & those times I would just run an extension cord to plug fridge in directly.

There is a cigarette type plug in the back of the van....would that work for running the fridge while driving?

    Ackidge's Adventures

Hi back!   I wish the warmer weather would hurry up & get here!  Road trip up to Kennebunkport planned for Memorial Day weekend.

    Ackidge's Adventures

I have a Dometic CFX28 on order.  The only other electrical needs will be occasional phone/tablet charging & my portable dvd player.  Maybe a light. I am woefully naive about the electrical systems.  I will be using this for recreational camping and 75% time I am at a campground where I plug in...

    Ackidge's Adventures

Just trying to add some pictures of my progress.  My folding mattress arrived today. So I could sleep in the van now if I wanted to, although still a bit chilly here in MA.

Do any campgrounds not allow converted cargo trailers?

I will just be using my converted Transit for recreational camping. I tried to make a reservation for Memorial day weekend but had to agree to set up a tent next to my vehicle as I was told "it makes some people nervous to know people are just sleeping in their car" I don't understand that at...
