How Many Miles on Your Van??? Milage, too if you wish

2000 GMC Savana G3500 w/6.5L turbo diesel.  About 228K miles. I get 9-11 around town and 14-16mpg on the highway at 60-65mph.  Although I averaged just over 17mpg for one tank during my trek north from Florida and had been driving at 70mph.  Yes, I was surprised.

    Where Do I Start!?

Hiya Mamamia - I almost gasped when I read TEN INCH mattress, lol!  I have a 1 ton cargo van.  I gave a lot of thought to the bed/mattress/storage equation.  I'm 6'2" (or at least used to be) so needed a North-South sleeping arrangement.  Settled on a std twin bed right behind the driver's seat...

    I have a Start Date: June 23, 2017

OK, so now I do NOT have a start date- sigh.  Buyer did not qualify for financing.  I know, for conventional sales, buyers are qualified before making an offer.  But for a short sale (at least here in CT) they have a month or two to qualify after the mortgage-holding bank accepts the offer.  So...

    I have a Start Date: June 23, 2017

That's when my house sells (foreclosure short sale) and I, ready or not, move into my home-on-wheels.  I've had my 2000 GMC Savanah 3500 (6.5l TD) for just over a year.  There's a 1/2" of polyiso between the ribs, a twin-size bed directly behind the driver's seat, a Fantastic Fan in the roof...

    Engel Refrigerator sale

What a great community we have here! FYI I ordered the 43 qt unit yesterday after calling to inquire about the sale. The gal I spoke with said to just order right off the web page. Yes, shipping is still free. Thanks again, HDR, you saved me close to $300! Randy/FaL

Roof vent installation on high top van?

Experience is what we get when we don't get what we want.  Sure wish I had read this about a week ago.  I don't have a high-top and my metal roof is full of 'hills and valleys', but that's the best advice on making a 14 inch square hole that I've read yet.  Much better than drill the corner...

    Narrowing van criteria

Hi Vanada - I chose a 2000 GMC Savanah with the 6.5l turbo diesel (Detroit Diesel, owned by GM at the time).  Have not yet started my conversion so can't quote mpg yet.  Wanted extended wheelbase, but this is the std one.  Wanted a high-top, but this doesn't have that either.  Plus I have to...

I should not have bought a minivan

What an interesting, informative thread.  Dan, I admire that you 'took the plunge' with what you thought would work best, found out it wouldn't and took action to correct it.  Best of luck to you on finding the right vehicle for You! Remember:  'Experience is what we get when we don't get what...

    I'm Back!

Hello, Matt.  So your careful plans went out the window... but now you have new plans!  What's that saying?, "Experience is what we get when we don't get what we want."  I'm guessing that this Elantra trip will still provide plenty of 'experience' that you guys can put to best use on your next...

    So grateful for this resource

Hello Bob and fellow members. I've been poking around this site for probably two years or more as my wife and I had hoped to travel in whatever kind of little RV or camper that we could afford once I retired.  But a year ago, my wife was in and out of the hospital with severe abdominal pains. ...

    Newbe

Chuck - thank you for your service, Sir! I missed Vietnam by one year. Those were terrible years to be a youngster - thank you for being a man at a child's age. Find a way to support both of you and insist that she retire early. Do it today. Tomorrow is not promised (I know). She will thank...
