    RTArtCamp 2018

Okay, I am writing the schedule for the RTR and now the rubber hits the road, talks cheap, who is going to step up and be responsible to make this happen? You must be 100% certain you will be there and you must field questions and speak for the event. I'll give you a chance to announce it...

    Outdoor Storage Boxes

It's been my experience that van doors eventually become nightmares. I'd do anything I could to put that off as long as I could. I wouldn't hang anything on them.

Input abt AZ 87 in Winter

Personally, unless you have a compelling reason I would avoid Northern New Mexico and Arizona entirely. I always take 1-10 across both in the winter. Southeast AZ is beautiful and that's the best time to visit it.

Valley Fever should I be concerned?

We are working cattle that were bred to fear to control us. I'm not going to live my life in fear anymore, and I'm not going to be controlled anymore. But, neither will I take an unreasonable risk, however, this is just barely a risk of any kind. We all have to make our own choices.

Limited slip diff or air locker?

Limited Slip usually has a fairly short life and doesn't always help. I'm going to put a Detroit locker in my Chevy as well. They work as well as anything can and last forever. Much cheaper than anything else that will work as well. Road manners aren't the best but totally tolerable.

    Trash left in Cottonwood AZ

Sadly, there are boondockers who do leave trash. So while the vast majority do not, it is a distinct possibility that boondockers did it. I'd guess I know where that was at and yes, it is where boondockers camp.

Valley Fever should I be concerned?

You might die in a flash flood or from a lightning strike also. The world is a very scary place! What to do??

What will it take to navigate these roads safely?

I don't see any problems with any of those roads. I routinely go on worse. 3 Things that will seriously stop you: 1) Mud 2) Sand 3) Boulders embedded in the road Number three is the most common and could stop you on the rougher of those roads. The low ground clearance of the Rav4 will be a big...

    Howdy, ya'll!

Linda, you are off to a great start with a very solid plan!! But, let me warn you that living out of a SUV is quite a bit harder than a van, so keep that in mind as you travel. The everyday issues get much more difficult the smaller the rig. So it isn't truly representative of what your life...

    Legalities of residency

What most of you are missing is that nearly all states now require you bring in a receipt proving that you live at the physical address. The few states that do not require it will start requiring it soon. It's part of the Real ID Act and without it you will not be allowed onto a Federal...

What, exactly is the Ford Modular spark plug issue:

There are two distinct problems with Ford Spark plugs. The first one was it spitting out spark plugs because of too few threads. The second one was after they tried to "Fix" the first problem and created the second problem which was breaking the plug off on removal. In 2008 they finally fixed...

    Becoming a Nevada Resident

No, I'm a huge fan of Arizona and like I said, the only thing that keeps me from being a resident there is the taxes. If taxes aren't an issue for you, go for it! Coyote Howls works out to be $45 a month, and when you factor in you can put up an 8x10 storage shed it becomes an outstanding deal...

    House Battery Dead, Need Advise.

I would think of the new one you buy as a "learning" battery and expect to kill it as well. So, buy the cheapest battery you can find with the best warranty. That's probably a Walmart marine. Just tell the clerk you want the largest marine battery he has, that will be either a group 29 or group...

Mr. Heater Buddy - too hot, high propane use

I 100% disagree with John61CT. The Olympians are 100% safe to use overnight... IF ..... you read the instructions and follow them. Specifically the amount of ventilation they require and clearances. Rule #1: Now, let's make this absolutely clear, EVERY PROPANE BURNING DEVICE CAN KILL YOU IF...

    battery choice

Is there a reason you want to put your panels in series. There are times when you want to, but it isn't the norm. Usually parallel is better--but not always.

    5 lb propane tank

My experience has been very different than many of yours. In the last 10 years I've not had a 20 pound tank, instead, I've always used either a 1 gallon or 2 1/2 gallon bottle. NEVER had the slightest problem with them in any way. I've had lots of friends fall in love with them and get rid of...

2 100 watt solar panels. Parallel or series?

Generally, the only reason to go with series is if you have a very long run and the cost of the cabling is a consideration. If that's not a factor, I'd go parallel.

First van build on a budget

Will you diligently keep a flooded wet cell battery full of water? If not, it's already doomed no matter how you charge it. I'd suggest buying the cheapest AGM you can find with the best warranty as a starter battery. Probably a Duracell from Sams Club or Batteries Plus. Actually, if you will...
