Is anyone interested in convoying with me to RTR 2019 from Chicago, Illinois area?

Congratulations, Alma! Great responses and it looks as though you've got company on the road. I even found myself wondering if my wife and I could somehow make it. We live about halfway between Chicago and St Louis and I'm finding that she's pretty eager to get out and start roaming around...

    Argh, I Got the Peelies......

But it's hard not to love a GMC truck! So I'd probably try using "Kilz". It probably won't wear very well. But you're likely to be using a paint brush regularly for the remainder of this van's life. But maybe I'd go ahead and try Rustoleum. It is good stuff and it doesn't smell too bad.

    I am new to CRVL.

Glad to meetcha, JayC. I'm a newbie around here with only limited experience using a small vehicle as overnight shelter and living space. So I'm not going to have much advice for you. That's no problem, though, since experience here has already taught me that there are helpful and...

Who's removed their van front passenger seat?

There was a time when I was sleeping in a little bunk I'd made in the 'king cab' section of a pickup truck while out on the road. It was crowded. One day I bought a low-back bucket seat from a junkyard and pulled the bench seat that came with the truck. Made a plywood platform to act something...

Flooded lead acid usage compared to AGM

I'm afraid I don't know the answer. But I'm going to hope that a flooded battery can take a higher discharge than a gel or a glass mat. It's because I chose flooded batteries. Just bought them the other day, as a matter of fact. I actually wouldn't have even blundered into your thread, not...

Some power consumption measurements. Small appliances.

There'll be an item or two on this list that no one will ever use camping/full-timing.  One of those electric, oil filled radiator heaters, for instance.  But my electrical rig will also do double duty as the electric supply for my home during power outages.  If it happens that others follow a...

Mr Heater vs Propex HS2000 heater

Hello, Cosmo. I stumbled upon your videos while browsing teardrops. Your videos are good. The Vistabule is one sweet camper. I don't think I was aware that you posted here. It's good to see you.

    Finally full time

Congratulations Tiny Metal Tube! We're not full-timers yet. And, for that matter, we might not ever choose to do it. But I'm the sort who could be happy doing it and my wife is more intrigued by the notion than I would have suspected. You sold your house to get debt free and, perhaps, help...

    Good 'heads up'. Thank you.

Useful YouTube series from a veteran mechanic

He almost yells when he speaks, doesn't he? Still, it looks like he's worth listening to. I watched the vid about changing a battery. I've had a vague notion that maybe modern cars should not be allowed to go electrically dead. But I never looked into it. He made it clear that this is an issue.

Quick Charge House Battery E car charger

Something else comes to mind here. This was not just a conversation between the OP and highdesertranger. Others were and are looking in and pondering whether or not to think about doing the same thing. highdesertranger stating his concerns over the matter is doing the rest of us a service...

    We ain't getting any younger!

Glad to meet you, Crochet Granny. My wife and I are also newbies and want-to-be nomads. We're planning our first rig right now with the goal of being at least semi-nomadic come spring. The first rig will be primitive and cheap while we figure out whether or not we want to go all-in. (I'm...

    Thanks for the forums.

Tell us more about your trailer. We're very curious. It's 'coming along'. Does that mean that you're converting it for living in right now?

    Just got my first van!

Glad to hear it! I'm a newbie. A wannabe, in fact. So I've got no advice for you. Though your rig sounds like just the thing. This forum seems to be quite welcoming. You ought to do just fine.

Not committed to full-timing yet. But planning for it.

"Sorry for the long post!"  No, no no.........I like long posts. Gimme your thoughts. More and more and more of 'em!  :) I'm expecting to do more campgrounds than boondocking. My wife will not look favorably upon boondocking, though she might tolerate some with a very good setup. I could be...

Not committed to full-timing yet. But planning for it.

This thinking about boxes and shells on the truck has, sort of, distracted me. That's okay, though, since it's good to ponder options a bit on the slow side. I'm re-thinking some of the equipment I listed above. I did go ahead and order some of the equipment that will be useful in a power...

    Steam punk tear drop trailer

I'm one who's heavily into "practicality". So I disapprove of it. Still........that is pretty cool.

    A song for vandwellers.

Thank you. I do like screaming into a microphone. It really brings out the ham in me.

    A song for vandwellers.

It's occurred to me that this song is bound to resonate with anyone who lives their life on the road. It's a bit rowdy, of the 'southern rock' variety. So those sensitive ears might want to be careful with the volume. It's not my song. But that is me doing the lead vocals. And I guess I am...
