    Time for a Van Heater

One of my favorite youtubers did a video on how all of the fittings work together on a stove pipe in a cargo  camper. Look up "Gonagain"   https://www.youtube.com/c/Gonagain/search?query=stove%20pipe Rick shows in detail how he vented his stove/heater in his 6x10 cargo trailer.  I also enjoy...

Where are you living at right now.

Will we be competing for last place in am RV beauty contest? I love DIY home made campers. Believe me, you can tell mine is home made, it has that DIY "shrimp boat" texture look. You are correct about air tight when all of the corners and overlaps are sealed.  On my last build I had to add...

New guy wants to talk about the bed now.

I have always used my 14" very sharp fillet knife. I sandwich the foam between two  8' 2x4's and clamp each end down tight and squeeze the foam thin and simply follow the edge,  makes a nice smooth cut. I will admit I have done this up to 6" thick. I have not done one 10" thick. In my 6x12 build...

    To Glue Latex Mattress?

I have modified and glued together about 5 different mattresses. Squeeze it down thin with a 2x4 and run a fillet knife down it. Now spread about 3 or 4 ounces of Walmart Tacky Fabric glue on the two halves and glue them together, I now take a queen size flat sheet and encapsulate the two...

Drinking water in Quartzsite and on the road [split] Quartzite question

Some of you are talking about driving to take a shower. I have had every kind of DIY shower you can think of. My shower now is to heat 6 qrts of water on a stove to 108 deg F and shower in a folding dog bath. A  DIY sheer shower curtain with pulleys  on a  track ring mounted to ceiling contains...

    hardwire cig lighter

d_s  I have converted to below for "semi permanent connection"  things like frig, etc. Small fans,  I still use the cig plug. Trouble with the cig plug is all of the current is flowing through a point and the plug is trying to push itself out of the socket with the spring behind the point. Any...

Those of you with the Coleman one-burner stove...

Jac,  they are very very thin, just draw a circle where you want the hole, place screen on a flat stump, use a thin nail and hammer and go around the circle you made punching holes as close as you can, now just use you small 1/4" chisel to connect the dots, smooth out with a file.

Genetic analysis of covid 19 shows how it spread

But it got out of China through more than one route. This article summarizes the mutations the virus has accumulated on the way, which in turn tells us the paths through which given strains have passed. Extremely interesting if you're into this sort of thing. (I am.)

Where are you living at right now.

S2D, the trailer weighs 675, the box I calculated at 1100 lbs without the build inside. One of my builds was a cargo and it came with really thick (1" ) OSB plywood floor and 1/2" OSB walls and ceiling. That stuff is full of glue and is HEAVY. So my box ends up being a 1/4" skin vs the Al on a...

flagstaff forest service camping ban / other bad news

"The national forest usually averages over 600 abandoned campfires a year, which can start fires if not put out correctly, said George Jozens, spokesman for the Forest Service."    And at night time while driving I constantly see the telltale explosion of sparks as smokers roll down there window...

12 Volt and Tiny ACs for Nomads

"at  night I use the ZB on batteries."   The ZB is a 24v dc air conditioner called Zero Breeze model II.  It is 2300 Bu with an EER of about 10. It has several fan speeds and modes. It is a digital ramp up micro rotary compressor type. Literally starts at about 10 watts and slowly ramps up to...

12 Volt and Tiny ACs for Nomads

Great  idea Malamute, You know, when it's hot as hell, the  mentality  that I must  have a rig that is much more flashy and  beautiful than everybody else greatly diminishes when I am sitting in my box surrounded by 75 deg air. That  "window unit"  starts to look like a vase full of roses!

12 Volt and Tiny ACs for Nomads

Great write up, thanks for sharing. Nothing like managing and controlling your environment. I have a Frigidaire 5000 "Softer" start  model  I run off solar during the day, at  night I use the ZB on batteries.  My build is a box that I slide on to a Alumaweld trailer. The box isn't about trying...

Retired Van Dwellers: why not Mexico

I would love to do this but not being able to speak Spanish is a major show stopper for me. I guess they do have those two way translator devices if someone twisted my arm.
