    Buying Land

Fun fact, make sure you have a good door stop to hold the huge several ton doors open as a failure crushed and killed over 40 people once I believe. Where is OSHA when you need them! Everyone was looking down into the hole when they should have been looking up at the doors.

    Nomad maintenance?

There are many auto parts stores that will “rent” you the tools and let you work on their property I believe. If you are retired military there used to be auto hobby shops on many bases that are there specifically for that purpose. Just a few legal options to check out. When working I always lay...

    Life At Kamp Koon………

Sports Car Club of America ran a rally there in the 1980s named “The Rally From Hell!” If I remember we started 84 cars and 30 some managed to finish the course.

Dating and van life. How does one go about this?

Maybe that’s why I got engaged so many times before I was 25! Darn Baptist upbringing! Lol!!!

    Advise on part-time camper

Most here are in the USA and can’t imagine the situations you are facing in the UK. I would think like Japan a lot would depend on vehicle tax as it relates to size. I did a while back see a build that slid in through the rear doors and was small enough and easily removed so it could be stored...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

It was a little smokey north of Flagstaff yesterday although it had cleared pretty much by this morning. I believe the wind was generally blowing it away from the area. It was a little chilly this morning I ended up using my Little Buddy heater to knock off the chill! Was supposed to warm to 77...

    PIRATE CAMP '24-25....................Desert SouthWest

I found it is better to mount them securely than make them adjustable after having the wind tear one loose and twist the frame. I mounted mine vertically securely and it being a 305 watt panel replacing a 100 watt panel charging a single set of batteries used mainly for charging other batteries...

    PIRATE CAMP '24-25....................Desert SouthWest

Must have generators as well as fuel for them or battery backup! Most of the country has had some kind of extreme weather or it’s effects it seems this year. Even as a nomad it is hard to avoid.

    PIRATE CAMP '24-25....................Desert SouthWest

My old Optima AGM which I never let go below 75% charge is still going after 13 years it may have lost some capacity but still runs my pump to empty my black tank a couple times a week with just a 100 watt Renology portable solar panel to charge it that is several years old. I’m beginning to...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

I’ve been working on getting the camper trailer ready at our new home base as my wife will retire from the National Park Service before the end of the year. Park Service furnished a house to keep her around which she immediately filled with “stuff” when we were forced out of our RV spot by the...

    Softer flooring?

Just get a mechanics pad (Harbor Freight) and keep it stored where you can easily reach it. I climb in the back of my Suburban all the time on my knees so the pad is bungeed to the spare tire. It is vinyl covered foam that folds in half, wipes off easily and can double as a sleeping mat or its...

    Which is easier?

Follow the seasons open the windows and vents turn on a low wattage fan. Doing that as I write this in my camper at 7,000 feet elevation. Currently 71 degrees outside. Low of 43 degrees tonight so as soon as it finishes cooling off I’ll turn off the fan and pull out a nice cover. I’ll leave...

Grounding a solar system - What parts do I ground?

^^^By connecting the camera to both positives of the batteries you will have effectively connected both batteries positive posts a really, really bad idea unless you like the smell of smoke and possibly like putting out fires or maybe need a new camera.

Grounding a solar system - What parts do I ground?

I keep house and vehicle circuits separate so as not to discharge the vehicle battery while parked. A circuit requires both a positive and a ground connection be made in order for it to work. You can connect as many ground wires as you want as long as the positive posts of the two batteries are...

New NYC transplant w a dream

A 1500 watt inverter 120 volt AC can be attached and powered by the 12 volt DC accessory battery which is charged directly off the large vehicle battery which is automatically charged by the ICE engine when it goes below a set voltage. Many Prius owners use a cheap 120 volt AC ceramic heater on...

New NYC transplant w a dream

It’s gonna get cold in North Texas in winter I would seriously look at hybrid vehicles for the ability to keep temps comfortable. A simple inverter hooked to the hybrid vehicle would solve all your power problems as well.
