    Mechanics

I've found mobile guys tend to be regional. I mean travelers, I'm wondering of nomadic mechanics are finding work out there. I have a few ideas, but curious to hear from people already out there.

    Hello, from Washington

Gonna make a note of this, that's really good to know. I've always heard it was thermal problems that killed them, but yeah, that makes sense. How many miles per gallon are you getting out of your stepvan? And the 7.3 is an e350. It'll have plenty of payload capacity plus all the ass I need for...

    Hello, from Washington

I was thinking specifically of the PMD, coolants problems and crankshaft bearings. But it sounds like you've got it sorted out and are out there kicking ass. I'm going to GA within this next week to take a look at a 7.3 that looks to be in good shape. Keeping my fingers crossed

    Hello, from Washington

I don't mean to be a downer but that 6.5 has some real gremlins. Types of gremlins that will grenade your engine. If you google more, you'll see what I mean, but also you'll find the work-arounds people have come up with.

    New Vs. Used

The truth is though, a vehicle is a depreciating item. Its certainly no asset, excepting semi-trucks and things like that which make money. The other to consider when buying new is that odds are good you will need to finance it, and this means interest and if you're not careful, you'll pay for...

    Gypsy

Certainly, and that's why I provided other links as well. Once again, take it or leave it, just something I'm pointing out.

    Gypsy

I'm a little torn on making this thread, but I feel its worth pointing out as I see "gypsy" in quite a few people's usernames. The term gypsy is an ethnic slur for the Romani people. A few links proving/verifying what I'm saying: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gypsy...

Anything I should know about driving out West?

I would plan to gas up af half tank. Like once you start nearing that halfway mark, be looking for fuel. This goes double for the southwest. Otherwise drive safe and take your time.

Found a van for sale with a sticker hiding the, "check engine" light

White smoke means either a blown head gasket or a cracked cylinder. You don't want none of that smoke, literally. I'd offer them a couple hundred bucks at most.

Are you guys traveling with your tools, and if so, are you finding enough work to justify the increased gas expenditure due to the increased payload weight? Also, what kind of rig are you using?

    Minivans

As used vehicles prices have climbed, anyone else starting to look more and more at minivans?

    Advice on Route

Made it to Florida just fine and have been down here for the past year learning about diesel mechanics. I suddenly remembered this thread this morning and thought I would update.

    Advice on Route

I've made it to texas and that has really been something to see family I haven't seen in many years. These past few days have really shook me up. I'd love write more on this, but how does one talk about the sheer weight of years that spans generations. It's heavy stuff and seeing some of those...

    Advice on Route

Thank you all for the comments. Just an update: I made it just fine to my first stop in California. The drive was fine, but boy once you get to socal, the roads narrow and the drivers drive faster. I also had no idea what the grapevine was, but made it to the top with no problems...

    Advice on Route

Hey everyone, thanks for the great replies and information. I've been bouncing the suggestions off of google maps and am taking you guys input seriously. I should add a few pieces of information that I should have from the start: -I'm driving an older truck, and as such I want to stick as close...
