    Alibaba.com LiFePo4 Experience

I’m only charging at around .1c so I presume that’s quite low. It’s actually not clear what the trigger settings are for the <$20 Daly. I apparently triggered it when in Victron absorb using the default Victron LiFePo4. I bled some power off with the inverter and it restarted. I’m hoping...

    Alibaba.com LiFePo4 Experience

I’m just finishing off an Alibaba.com sourced 280 ah LiFePo4 battery.   Will Prowse’s Diysolar forum is a great resource, but there is a lot of noise.  What follows are my conclusions and actions.  I’d verify for myself on that site for current conditions.   A lot of people are buying very...

    design flaw

The Walmart group 29 is a bit deeper cycle, no idea on the measurements. I’ve just finished an 280ah Alibaba.com LiFePo4. I’ll write it up.

    Registration and Insurance

You may be able to avoid issues for quite some time so long as you keep everything in your former home State. I think I was around four years, changing everything over when I decided to start voting in my new area.

There is such a thing as a Smart Trolling Battery Box

I have had a simple MinnKota trolling motor battery box for maybe 8-9 years now. It's served its purpose well in my lead acid years, which are now ending.

    Arizona National Forest closures

Monsoon appears to have started early here in SW Colorado. It's cooler, but wet. If the early start means anything it might be a very wet summer. And a great mushroom season.

    Joe vs. the Volcano style

There are ample opportunities to meet folks in this community, including organized singles groups. As they say though it is not recommended for either person to sell their rig!

Use lithium house battery for small trolling motor?

A trolling motor is likely to be a heavier discharge. I’d consider how my house system is set up. A second solar charge controller would help on that aspect of the disparate batteries, but not with the load issues. If I was doing this regularly I’d also rotate which battery I used so they...

    Battery bank issues

Try battery university for basics. The first question that comes to my mind is whether you are getting to full charge. Lead acid batteries like to be as full as possible. That final topping off is best not done with a generator as it takes some time. A small solar panel in combo with...

your reviews of portable power stations and portable solar panels?

I purchased a LiFePo4 Audew power station and it failed within 30 days. I too purchased a golabs as a replacement and it is much better built. It also offers pass through charging as does the lower cycle life Jackery. I don’t think the higher capacity power stations are worth it, you can...

Van + cargo trailer + solar panels

The only thing is to check your voltage drop by length and gauge of wire. Higher voltage systems have less drop, but you won’t need to worry about that.

Flexible solar panels on curved roof?

Heat is likely an unavoidable issue on a surface mount. The first generation of flexible panels had internal wiring failures. A surface mount would reduce those problems, at the expense of heat issues. Those heat issues effect the panel and the interior of the mount. Rigid panels are...

will the explosion of full time Vandwellers that the life will be more costly.

Certainly class is in effect in highly desirable areas, and this will continue to expand. Presumably so also will safe urban homeless ‘parks’. My favorite popular camping areas are those with rigs you can tell belong to folks who have gone through the learning curve, like at the RTR. A...

Any experience with Beaudens LiFePO4 power station?

My 40l dometic died this winter, definitely subject lots of 12v lead acid fluctuation - but no unexpected observed cycling with the cutoff set at the mid level.

will the explosion of full time Vandwellers that the life will be more costly.

This is ongoing, we shall see a new phase with people entering the life due current conditions. Perhaps the most entertaining part of this process are the middle management folks who attempt to build some sort of corporate type structure. The fundamental nature of self reliance is central...

Any experience with Beaudens LiFePO4 power station?

I purchased the Audew 300wh LiFePo4 this winter and was immediately disappointed with the build quality - cheap brittle plastic and a ciggy port cover that broke on day 1. It stopped accepting a charge just before the day 30 return. There is little availability from Beaudens. Another...

group battery type, 29 or 31?

What’s the lower price? For that 100ah price you are in the ball park of a self constructed LiFePo4 battery of a similar size and much greater depth of discharge and charge cycle life. Xuba is a cell brand recommended here, Will Prowse at DIY solar has another. You can search this forum for...

    Beginner's questions on starting Vanlife

Just camping out is a good way to get started. A cheap Coleman two burner stove with a 20 lb tank, a cooler, and a good camp chair and you are ready to go. This is assuming you are not stealthing it in an urban area.

    Used LiFePo battery?

Lifepo4 is a newer tech so you are less likely to find used. Folks are buying what I believe are classified as grade B cells direct from China. Xuba is a brand mentioned here. Will Prowse on YouTube has a brand he recommends as part of his diy video. There are lots of us watching the price.

Video Collaborators Sought - Van & Auto Life

Definitely a good idea. I would suggest doing a meetup at Scadden Wash, the former site of the RTR, mid January 2022. Putting together a collaborative such as this is not easy without getting into petty politics. This is standard fare in the creative world. I would suggest starting small.
