Starlink - The Scoop From A Nomad

I took my V3 standard with me to Alaska this summer. I was in a van and found that the size and number of components made it a less than desirable setup. But what really bothered me was the power consumption. When I got back home, I ordered the mini and a battery brick to power it with the...

How do you stretch your income?

I do the same. Not only is it fairly inexpensive, but an ebook/kindle takes up much less space than a paper book.

    Smashed my Pixel 7

Sorry to hear that. I’d be cautious about trying to use a broken cell phone because of the fire risk. Generally for electronics, I check out factory refurbished devices. I just checked and found some refurbished Pixel 7s going for about $150. If I were to try to get it repaired and the...

How do you stretch your income?

One of the things that I did when I first started trying to save was to use a budget tool - not so much to create a budget, but to understand where our money was going. I still use one. My wife and I do use credit cards which we pay in full each month, but it’s really easy to buy on a credit...

If you go to your browser and type in the URL (www.cheaprvliving.com) you will be able to get to the web site. So I suspect that the DNS that vanlivingforum.com uses is not quite up to date.

How do you stretch your income?

I also find that it helps to wait at least a week before buying anything other than food or gas. By thinking it over, I avoid wasting money on an impulse purchase.

How do you stretch your income?

We’ve had a lot of comments on a Social Security thread about how to prepare for retirement and how to stretch what income you have. Since many people that are in the forum are on an income consisting only of social security, I thought having a thread which focused only on that would be...

    Social security

OK - time for me to opine… ;-) It does little good to just have comments and posts moaning and groaning about what ‘they’ should do. ‘They’ won’t respond to those posts/comments. It’s much more productive to have comments and post about what “we/I” could do because you have total control...

    Question about kitchen electronics

While folks may be afraid of propane, poor electrical wiring causes a lot of van fires.

Man, on man! Did you authorize your broker to invest with your funds? If not, then that would be grounds for legal action. The only time that would be acceptable is if you are using a fiduciary management team. Otherwise that would be a big no-no.

You only lose money when you sell. The folks that remained calm and stayed in have done quite well since 2008. I made a post earlier about how humans tended to be much more influenced by negative news than positive. One of the things that happens when there is a down turn is that folks...

That’s why I chose to quote median, not average.

The individual median salary increased by 1100+% since 1970.

Well, in 1970, the individual median salary in the United States was $4,778. Now it is $54,132. So someone’s gotten a raise since 1970. ;-)

I think that ‘true’ happiness comes from contentment within. From that viewpoint, yes they are the same.

    Social security

Nope, but in my opinion, happiness is overrated. Contentment is much more critical. Happiness can be fleeting, contentment is sustained. Happiness tends to be external, contentment tends to be internal. I suspect that’s why a lot of people buy things that they don’t need or that they can’t...

    Social security

I’m currently reading the book “The Psychology of Money” by Morgan Housel. It’s not so much about how to use what money you have to obtain wealth, but rather on how people emotionally act and how that affects their ability to become wealthy. It’s really an interesting psychological study of...

    Inexpensive meals and eating

I’m diabetic so carbs are the enemy. One corn on the cob at supper time, and the next day my blood sugar will be over 200. It’ll take several days to get it back to 100. The safest veggies for me are green beans and broccoli. When I’m on the road, I’ve discovered that the best meals I can...
