    Holding Thinsulate in place

Since I have a window of time to work within and I needed to get insulation in to be able to move on to electrical, ceiling and wall coverings, I sought some 3M 90 on eBay. One lot of 6 smaller cans and 1 lot of 8 full size cans. Have had a lot of drama with one seller who among other things...

Shore Power Charger (120VAC-12V Battery Bank)

I've purchased almost all of the components for my house electrical system. One thing I have left to buy is a method to charge batteries from 120VAC. I've always loved camping, but I'm not a fan of campgrounds, so it would probably only be used occasionally when visiting friends, relatives, or...

    Travel partner?

+1 on the driving school idea. I learned when I was young, but I did learn to drive a motorcycle in my 40s and taking a class really helped me understand what I needed to know, build some skills through practice, become proficient, and have a plan for developing my riding. I also think finding a...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

I'm just starting the walls and ceiling, cedar T&G over thinsulate and low R insulation. I've been looking at that area and thinking a layer of low R insulation adhered to the metal and a layer of upholstery fabric over that. With the wire loom attached on top of that. Interested to see other...

    Comfortable Mattress for 66yr old?

How do the 2 toppers feel? Did you buy soft as the link suggests?  Do you know if that is natural Talalay or Dunlop process Latex? I went to a foam place yesterday and got an estimate for my build; I want a potentially Full size mattress (75"x54") but cut down into 2 pieces, 1 @ 75"x38" (Twin)...

    Vegetables

Interesting challenge. I think going a step away with adding some dried or fermented choices that keep longer to supplement fresh might be required.  However Lutefisk is going too far! Or perhaps a rooftop garden, or sprouting? Good luck and report back with your experiences for us to learn from.

    What's your favorite zombie movie/show?

I enjoyed Zombieland with Woody Harrelson, (the Zombie Bill Murray) Sean of the Dead, and Peter Jackson's early film "Dead Alive" is way over the top. As you can see, an absurd or humorous angle usually works better with that subject for me. Although the original George Romero "Night of the...

    Separett Toilets

It seems that the #2 deposits pile up on top of each other. It doesn't indicate there is any mechanism to distribute, or mix,  just pile up and dry out I guess?  How long before you need to bag it up and dispose of it? Is it just a matter of pulling the full bag out and replacing it with a new...

    Biodegradable Soaps, Shampoos

I am preparing to go on the road and am anticipating primarily boon docking type camping. I know many soaps we use for washing dishes, bodies, and hair don't break down easily and I wanted to find products that will clean but then biodegrade once used, particularly if drained into the sand with...

Latex Mattress Foam, Custom size, Convertible

Hmm, good points. I think  the weight and floppiness will work fine for the part that will always lay flat, but the part that will serve as the sofa back support not so much. Maybe some firm, stiffer, and lighter foam as a base, with 3" of latex  as a top layer?

Latex Mattress Foam, Custom size, Convertible

I'm planning the bed in my van conversion. I'd like to build a convertible sofa/bed using latex mattress foam. I've been thinking about buying a full size latex mattress and cutting it into two pieces. The first piece to sit on and sleep on most nights, approximately the size of a twin, 38"...

    Comfortable Mattress for 66yr old?

6" seems thin, (2 mattress toppers.) At least as far as what the companies selling them recommend. Do you find that to be adequate? What firmness is it and what does it sit on top of? I'm currently building out a van conversion and am interested in a latex mattress.

    Separett Toilets

Thanks for the review. Like most composting toilets it seems like the ventilation is the key to controlling odor.

    Separett Toilets

I noticed Separett toilets, which have as perhaps the name implies separation of #1 from #2. Unlike other composting toilets it doesn't have a container for the #1 but a tube you route to a holding tank such as a grey-water tank underneath the vehicle. This could then be disposed of at an RV...

Super Gauge for curves & frames?

I'm pretty sure "Subway" has built a sandwich shop/gas station on Mars by now. I don't know if they used that technology.

Forum Members in the Southeast? [split] Crofter's Online discussion

I will probably be back at a job at a university in Mississippi in the near future, hopefully with my build out of a self contained cargo van finished. The last year working remotely from California has reminded me how much I prefer the western states low humidity and variety of terrain for...

    Holding Thinsulate in place

I'm wanting to put Thinsulate insulation up in a Ford Transit van I'm converting. I'm following "FarOutRide" website's build journal as I think they put a bit of thought into how materials will work together in the long run. They use 3M 90 spray adhesive to hold the batts of insulation in place...

Why do solo female Nomads have an easier time attracting non-nomads than solo males?

Not that I want to set out in Van Life to pick up chicks, but living in a part of the country where I don't fit into the culture for 12 years before I retire has had the effect of making me feel like the romantic part of my life has slipped by. I was married happily for 23 years, unhappily for...

Why do solo female Nomads have an easier time attracting non-nomads than solo males?

I agree on working on yourself and doing what makes you feel fulfilled. This is going to sound a bit like the old Penthouse letters but some of the other posts about college towns and age differences reminded me of this. I'll try to leave out the naughty bits.  I got into the academic world and...

    4 - 50AH vs 2 -100AH Batteries ?

Its getting to be time to buy batteries in my Transit build. I'm looking at LiFePO4 Lithium batteries. I want to start with 200 Amp Hours but think I will possibly want to add to it later. I have 400 watts of solar on the roof. Would it be a pain to wire 4 50ah batteries? Any...
