New To This Forum But Lived In Van For 10 Years

I've never heard of this group and am curious about the name if you find it. (Idle curiosity but I have been thinking about starlink, etc. Just returned from north coastal California.)

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

Some people here are on social security. Have you noticed that the 2022 SS COLA (to take effect with 2023 benefit payments) may be lower than expected because Q3 (July, August & September) inflation seems to be "magically" lower than Q2 inflation and the cola is based on Q3 inflation? It just...

You might add in Ecuador for three months. I have never visited there but I understand that it is very nice.

Switzerland? Looking for someone to help me convert my van in exchange for the flight, living expenses and pocket money.

Lots of Americans are familiar with life outside the USA; generalizations are unwise. Personally I have lived in Germany and visited here and there (Italy, Spain, Lithuania, UK, Australia, Taiwan, etc.). Most of my siblings have visited Sweden and some have visited South America. One of my...

    Banana Slugs Sauteed

According to this NIH article, the safe internal temperature is 165 degrees ("Hosts of A. cantonensis such as snails, slugs, and prawns are considered safe for human consumption if thoroughly cooked (heated to an internal temperature of 74°C or 165°F).") As a kid, I used to eat redwood sorrel...

One of my brothers was going to go to Happy Camp today but, when we talked last night, he said SR 96 was blocked both north and south of Happy Camp.

    24/7 Chat About Anything

Last year Rohner Park in Fortuna was used as an evacuation location; people were camping there for several days. I have driven on those roads (SR 3, SR 96, SR 36, US 199, SR 299, etc) off and on for ... 50 years; those are not roads you want to be driving on in a fire zone. Happy Camp is quite...

    Paranoia

I'll be driving through Wyoming (& Nebraska, Utah, Nevada, etc.) in August; did it six times (three round trips) in 2021. Never felt concerned stopping for a nap (or night) in Wyoming (or anywhere else on I80). Had to spend the night in Cheyenne last year because I80 west was closed due to...

    NorCal beaches, anyone?

Take the paved road from Redway, not the dirt road from Honeydew, if you want to visit Shelter Cove. ;) And make sure your brakes are REALLY GOOD!!!

    NorCal beaches, anyone?

My sister and some of our aunts went to Shelter Cove a few days ago. They said it was gorgeous.

    NorCal beaches, anyone?

I am a Humboldt County native and banana slugs used to be very common (and probably still are). You used to be able to buy "banana slug candy" in Old Town in Eureka (and probably still can).

Color of vehicle in heat ?

I wondered how new vehicles originated; now I know ("vehicles in heat"). ;) This phys.org article says: "White, silver, and other light colors are coolest, reflecting about 60 percent of sunlight but there are dark "cool" colors that can also stay cooler than traditional dark colors. When dark...

The Lost Coast is a beautiful area. Centerville Beach County Park is about 20 miles from Mattole Beach; day use only.

I did not notice the definition of an apartment in the article. Studio, one bedroom or two bedroom apartment? An apartment in the Bay area (or in many urban parts of California) for $1500/month would have been hard to find 30 years ago (when I was living in Redwood City).
