How to build it right, the FIRST time!

IMHO I think it has more to do with how you are wired: if you are an artistic person you will plan your masterpiece, build your masterpiece, and be satisfied with the result. if you lean more to the technical side you will always see things that can be improved.

Pricey propane or solar shower or PVC on the roof?

Simplest shower I used when living out of a Subaru Forester: 2 liter pop bottles, painted flat black, with screw on shower head. - use as many as you need; I used 2 - heat in sun -or- - - fill 3/4 with cold water, finish fill with boiling water - hold upside down to spray down -or- - -...

    Catalytic Heaters

Your reading comprehension is a little off today or I was not clear: stoichiometry of burning unleaded gas in normal atmosphere are available 'one atmosphere' might have been clearer. There are lots of studies on the stoichiometry in a high pressure environment (inside a internal combustion...

    Catalytic Heaters

I did the research a number of years ago; the papers on the stoichiometry of burning unleaded gas in normal atmosphere are available. Since I am not interested in using unleaded gas as an indoor fire source I'm not interested in redoing the research; it is time consuming. A good place to start...

Is there a cheap version of a gasoline heater that can be used at high altitude?

A while ago there was a thread on Expedition Portal showing putting a diesel bunk heater into a Pelican storage case and ducting the heat into his camper.

    Catalytic Heaters

Coleman fuel (a.k.a. white gas, generic name: petroleum naphtha) is a petroleum derivative (as is propane). World Health Organization lists propane as a safe indoor cooking fuel and afaik doesn't list naphtha. Naphtha does burn hotter than propane. Safety of Coleman heater: Other than...

    Catalytic Heaters

I used these when I was younger. Older now and more careful about what I breathe. Only use propane fired appliances in my camper now. White gas has a number of unhealthy combustion byproducts. Unleaded gas has additives and its combustion yields almost the same byproducts as auto exhaust.

    America the beautiful access pass

From the NPS website: "The [senior] pass provides access to and use of Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity [fee]." "The [senior] pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires."...

    Off Topic Posts Moved Here

It is not quite that simple. In every quadrant astronomers look, the universe is moving away from us at an equal rate (± 1%). I can think of three posibilities: the observations are wrong. the universe is expanding at different rates and the earth is moving in such a way to make it appear to be...

    Well, hello, I suppose

Welcome wParam! I traveled for two years in a Forester. As you have discovered there is not a lot of room for storage; you are shifting stuff around a lot. And you spend most of your time outdoors. Lots of experienced people here on living in a small space.

Can rebuilding an Engine drastically increase fuel efficiency?

Mounting my Propane tank on the back door?

Forklift tanks are designed to deliver liquid propane; disaster if used with appliances made for propane gas. - liquid propane is -44º; instant frostbite if gets on skin. - forklift tanks are heavy (#33 is 69# full, #43 is 83#) If you want underbody propane tank get one properly designed for...

Ok, I'm pullin' the trigger on a power station........

Not an EE either (MSME). But from my research: 80% seems to be the standard for quoting life for all Li-ion chemistries (probably because most BMS shut down at 20%). LA uses 50% because bean counters in the 60's used that to determine large battery bank size. There seems to be no standard on...

I Need Some Advice On T.V. Service In My Van

Yes, throttling is done on purpose: when you have reached the limit of your high speed GB allotment you get slowed down (on unlimited plans). That limit should be specified in your contract. Deprioritization is slowing you down when a cell tower is crowded; and it happens in a defined order...

    Campfire Cooking & Safety

I've cooked over an open fire for decades, no problem. Only an issue if you want your cookware to look pristine. The loose soot wipes off easily and the hard stuff absorbs heat better and protects. It takes a long time to develop hot coals with no flame (soot). Twig fires require constant...

    Thermo-Electric Generator technology (TEG)

NASA has some advantages we do not: - the temperature difference (hot/cold) is huge; space is really cold. - their heat source lasts for decades unattended: Voyagers 1 & 2 (launched in the 70's) are just now starting to run out of fuel. The Biolite generates 3W, so you will need to keep a...

    Pop top or not?

Not much market to justify the investment, IMO. There are a number of very nice, well built European, Australian, and Japanese RVs but nobody is importing them and they wouldn't be inexpensive. Most Americans want luxury and space: hence the 30'rs with slide-outs, 48"TVs, full kitchens.
