What is a Good Mini-Van to Live In?

97 dodge caravan Avg mpg: 25 Reliability: good, cheap repairs Headroom: get a bubble top, otherwise "not enough" Enough room to live in?: barely, with twin bed carries about 8 milk crates worth of storage not counting about 1ft space around all sides of the bed, assuming you leave one side door...

Save up for this powertrain upgrade if you REALLY wanna get better gasmilage...

well were a bit off topic here but... you forgot all the horrible chemicals fraking uses being dumped into ground water, tap water bursting into flame, weird cancers showing up wherever fracking is being done... nuclear (for electric or hydrogen) leads to problems like they got in japan...

    New user

Hi, I'm on the central coast as well, been here for about 6 years now. Area tends to not be too friendly to van dwelling. Mind me asking what cities are around you? Would make a difference as to what types of temp work is available. Note, wineries higher a lot of temps for working in the...

New Rules - Cell Phone Signal Boosters

if you have a cell phone, and you dont remove the memory card after every use, they already know where you are at all times... but this could be a way to effectively eliminate that issue... http://www.ted.com/talks/todd_humphreys_how_to_fool_a_gps.html

Where do you fill water tanks when living in the city?

I use the methods most have mentioned but keep a few things in the rig and a few different ways, 1) A hose connector for a regular sink or shower (then hit the laundromats or public bathrooms late at night) 2) side note, you can still get a screw in connector for a light socket that provides...

    U-Box Pod?

welll... need more room? get two and bolt em together, need more than that, get three. it would be like having a sectional home. also, I think if you made the walls act like slide outs, two would be bigger than most RVs. and the cost of shipping a shipping container... way more than one of these.

    Biggest Stealth Fails

Living a completely nocturnal lifestyle has some huge benefits and some drawbacks to van dwelling. On one side I can't violate most overnight camping laws as I'm awake from 10-6, sleeping during the day though means many more people to spot a minor stealth flaw (a big issue if you prefer...

    U-Box Pod?

I was thinking in 100k miles or so when this van is all but scrap I'd get a cheap pick up with one of those to pull around, or just put in the bed of the truck (if it fit) A steel storage container would just weigh way too much for that, you'd need a semi. Also the wood would be much more easy...

Save up for this powertrain upgrade if you REALLY wanna get better gasmilage...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it might be affordable enough to justify if you plan to keep a van for more than 10 years, still with new tech theres always expensive problems to recall etc. it seems... btw the truck division of Izuzu (forgot the name, Tonku I think) I remember reading was...

    Biggest Stealth Fails

well I'm big and and have some back problems, when I adjust while sleeping the minivan rocks a bit, its tipped off others before. I dont move around much when I'm inside (really just sleep or read in there mostly) but when I do move, even a little bit, its noticable.

    Biggest Stealth Fails

Are there any suggestions as to how to stop a van from rocking when your moving around inside of it? I know there are like hydrolic jacks that a lot of RVs use, but isnt that kind of obvious? maybe lower something behind the wheels?

Foam bed... is it REALLY that comfortable?

Yeah but I sink down into it, it lifts my head and shoulders up while squeezing them together, sleep on my stomach and it pulls back on my shoulders and up on my chin... Full sized foam mattresses have been torture devices for me, but 4 inches of varied stiffness foam topper, that seems to work ok.

Why do fools fall in love?

Never been married, never will be. The horror stories my friends tell me about their marriages, even the successful ones, have convinced me I'm not the marrying kind. I love my dog, enjoy the time and conversations I share with my friends, I love my relatives and their kids (but I'm happy I...

Save up for this powertrain upgrade if you REALLY wanna get better gasmilage...

Think that's making too many assumptions, I'll wait till it's available before I speculate on potential problems, but the idea of 100mpg sure is exciting!

well if they are showing MPG they aren't pure electric, I would guess a highly efficient gas generator and electric motors, but just a guess.

no idea, not available yet, but would it be worth 10k with a new engine installed into an older van?
