When to give up on my truck

I've had a chance to calm down over this whole thing, the truck, the living in the truck, the loss of people I thought were friends. I've really done some serious soul searching and I'm leaning toward selling the truck. My son may not be able to move out here as soon as I'd hoped and I have no...

    Living in a Truck

Each truck is different. I have an F150 with an extended cab. It has quite a bit of room in the backseat area. I filled the floor space with pillows, blankets, off season clothes, to bring it level with the backseat. I'm your height too. It's really very comfy. More so than some beds I've...

    Back fees on vehicles

Not sure if this is the spot to ask but.....
I have "residency" in AZ. Driver's license, an address. I'm "in" CA. No judgements please, lol! If I buy a vehicle that is owing in back registration fees in CA, but I'll be registering it in AZ, do I have to pay the CA fees? I've tried doing...

Doin' the big NASTY engine swap!!

This would be a nice option for me too! Find another truck with same engine and decent transmission. Good tires too would be a great bonus! Going to CL right now!

    Roll Call

I'm in Palm Springs, CA. Still. I live in my extended cab truck, no camper, just a shell. I'm parked for now in a friend's driveway, limited access to house. So I'm hoping this coming winter is my last here, since summers are brutally hot.
Willy, sorry to hear you too are having engine...

    Getting on the road

When I take a band-aid off, I peel it slowly. When I get into the pool, I slowly ease my way in. This is no different. Go at a pace you're comfortable with, but push yourself as well. That band-aid does have to come off!
This is a great forum to learn what you need to know!

When to give up on my truck

I really appreciate everyone's input. I love this forum!
I may have found a mechanic that I can have listen to it and see what he thinks. He's VERY affordable. Should know something in the next few days.
Zemio, thanks for your words of sympathy. I too have had moments of tears, just...

When to give up on my truck

I updated my profile, hopefully did it right. I'm in Palm Springs, CA.
I don't mind paying for diagnostic, but $200 seems like a lot. They aren't taking the valve cover off, just basic diagnostic. No one has said they'd apply the diagnostic to the rebuild either. Mostly for now, I just want...

What does everybody do for work/money?

I'm a pet groomer, in the owner's home.

When to give up on my truck

I am leaning toward continuing with it. Just not this shop. When their "stories" are so crazy that I realize they are taking advantage, time to go elsewhere. They also are saying they'd need it for 3-4 weeks. No can do. I live in it, they know that.
I have priced other shops. A full rebuild...

When to give up on my truck

The $9000 is what I'd end up putting into the truck to get it reliable, if I kept it and sunk more into it. Engine, trans, tires, purchase price, initial rebuild.

When to give up on my truck

It's so hard to figure out when it's just too much money to keep throwing at it. I bought it in March for $2600, drove it toward home for 2 hrs and blew head gasket. Towed it rest of the way. Saved for a couple months, put $2500 into a rebuild. They just did the top half. It runs, badly. They...

    Finally!

Rain!!! Fires are pretty much history! Awakened at 3 am with rain pelting the truck roof, thunder and lightning 2-6 seconds apart. Had to jump up, roll up the windows, run to the back and into the shell to attempt to shut the window there. It was so dried out I couldn't do it. Note to self to...

    so much for making plans...

Smaller is better! I just emptied my storage unit. Everything I own is in my F150 with ext cab. It's not even half full! At one time, this would have mortified me. Now, I'm thrilled. And thinking what else can go!

    Are most traveling alone?

I'm in my truck. It has an extended cab. So, maybe 1/3rd of a twin? And of course the bucket thing.
At some point, I'll be ready for a relationship again. Not now. I don't trust my judgement. It's not been good for..... well, forever. But it's getting better, mostly because I'm avoiding most...

How do you wash your traveling companion?

I've been a professional groomer for over 40 yrs. I'd suggest a do it yourself facility. Or, make a platform(plywood with a rubber mat) for the top of the toilet for the dog to stand on, making it secure with no wobble. Just jumping in the river, it depends on the dog's coat. Some have an oily...

    Finally!

24,000 acres now. Last night I sat on the tailgate and saw flames crest the top in two spots. Idyllwild has been evacuated, cute little town on the other side. The Tram is closed too. Winds are changing direction, so my spot may be smokier tonight. The actual fire isn't so much to worry about...

    EZ Peanut Stew

I make use of a rice cooker instead of a crock pot. I don't always have that much time to cook something. There's sooo much more you can do with a rice cooker than cook rice! I love your use of the peanuts. And as you say, it's just a stew after all.

    The summertime Crowding blues

I've had the fortune, good or bad, to have lived in tourist locales all my life. It's seems people go on vacation and leave their sense behind. Funniest comment I overheard... while living in Bisbee, AZ. I'm walking behind a father and his 10 yr old son past the Post Office. Dad says to son...

    Finally!

It was 8000 acres last I'd read last evening. Today, it's at 14,200. It's not windy during the day but evening and through the night it is. They haven't gotten more than 10% containment, in very steep mountains and very dry conditions. More like 10 miles from me. Lots of smoke and ash. I...
