dokio 300 w system and wire gauge to use

hello all. i'm feverishly trying to get up to speed on solar.... i got a dokio 300 w system, an epsolar 40a controller... haven't decided on batteries, altho i have a couple 12v wheel chair batteries. i'm wondering what gauge of wire would be good for the dokio to panel wires. --- if i look at...

What should I be looking for when choosing a van?

all i no is bob wells and others have commented on spark plug threads being insufficient in those ford cargo vans... i forgot which kind of engine, but the years you're looking for sound like that's the years for that issue....... but i guess if the van is in good shape and has been taken care...

    bedding

my current plan is a self inflating pad, actually a little too long for me (77", i think), with a little foam insulation built in......it's a thicker pad, prob for car camping..not at all sure how it will work or how comfortable. planned to supplement it with a BIG phat old polyester sleeping...

    insulating a van with comforters?

thank you for the wool links ! ---------- i really was not considering wool, and will review the material... i'm not totally against the various styrofoams, and am definitely including them in my thinking. concerns would be carcinogens and maybe even more, fire in a vehicle with few windows...

    insulating a van with comforters?

and this more in depth, scarey article, condeming styrofoams https://foursevenfive.com/blog/why-foam-fails-reason-1-dangerous-toxic-ingredients/ i figure most people seem to live with and accept its evils.... well, one advantage of being older is -- i've always wondered if seniors can take up...

    insulating a van with comforters?

idk...........i'm looking into it..........currently found this, which i just began reading......it's about 'green' but hoping it discusses carcinogens...nope........ nothing. most of the green alternatives do not sound v realistic. and i haven't done van life before to have experience all the...

    insulating a van with comforters?

ty, jonyjoe... i haven't noticed what you've done quite anywhere else.  it's interesting.. can i ask --- where do you go where you need so much insulation? the cold temperatures you show were only about 40F --- bay area weather! the hot - was 148F, which i assume was in the sun or something, but...

    insulating a van with comforters?

ty.........i looked at heating forum... i hadn't noticed insulation...but i'm reviewing them, esp insulation.  watched all bob's videos on insulating.... all that, plus this thread have helped a lot. i feel that me asking directly helps... i no, for instance, that i want something really quick...

    insulating a van with comforters?

tysm, crofter. also for the glue gun warning........ yes, jonyjoe put up 1/2" thick layers, i think... very interesting idea of his (or hers)

    insulating a van with comforters?

i'm tempted to say i can do this......... bob recommended xps (extruded polystyrene) because it bends..... 1/2" thick... does polyiso bend also? we have a stay in place order here... not sure i can run to home depot .... altho it is open, i assume.  between xps and polyiso -- neither of which...

OK now on to Plan D

congrats on the van, jimbo.... but you didn't trade in the trans am for it, did you? i'll watch your video... i got the same basic van... swing out doors, windows only in back and front. i see you got side windows; i got no side windows. i would like to do stealth... even where i live (bay...

    insulating a van with comforters?

jonyjoe, did you insulate all the walls and ceiling, and about how long did it take and how many sheets?  i'm assuming it's quieter, such as if you're at a truck stop overnight... i'm wondering if sleeping bags (polyester, etc) would be much easier to stick up..  does the insulation help much in...

    insulating a van with comforters?

so ------- say i don't insulate the van... that leaves the option of insulate later. i also just rewatched bob wells' video (2017, i think) in which he only insulates the walls with polyiso... not the ceiling or floor...so that's literally half insulated... i'm SORT of used to little or no...

    insulating a van with comforters?

thanks......... i am thinking of holding the comforters in place with ... slats... i guess that would maybe just compress the down.. what about polyester, or wool? is everyone saying --- gluing on foam?
  15. D

    insulating a van with comforters?

i've watched probably all the videos.... they're great... so you're saying condensation on the inside walls of the van, i assume, when it's cold outside... so gluing foam on the van walls is better? i'd think there would still be condensation, maybe less, maybe much less, but it'd be impossible...

    insulating a van with comforters?

i FINALLY got a van...chevy express in great shape. i'd like to do a very simple build --- so i'm starting with the walls. i'm thinking of buying two or three down comforters,... maybe it would take three to four... and lining the ceiling and walls with it. problem #1 is - how do i attach it? i...

    Downside of LITHIUM LiFePo4 Battery?

can anyone comment on my main concern about lithium batteries (which afaict cost about $1000 for 100ah) ---------------- i'd be worried about them getting stolen......... the battery would be about the most expensive thing in my van. and i don't know how one would explain it if they were insured...

how to secure everything in a rental van for rtr...

@maki2... i rechecked my caffeine amount ... i eat 80% to 88% dark chocolate in the am, about 1.1 oz... which is maybe 25 to 40mg caffeine daily. coffee, 8oz, is 100mg to 200mg... i don't take in any other caffeine.. i may have to recheck my chocolate intake, as the caffeine is a little higher...

how to secure everything in a rental van for rtr...

we'll see.... a few different opinions are offered on this subject. i'm just trying to be open about it, without being too much of a downer. i guess i'm trying to speak, a little, for others who might not.

how to secure everything in a rental van for rtr...

@crofter - yeah, anxiety and depression... i've got to be comfortable and feel safe in the van... i'm thinking of a fleet vehicle, the basic cargo van. i'd like windows, but the anxiety of having them, and the security issue makes them probably out of the question. i'd like to stealth in urban...
