    Linux install

I'd suggest a raspberry pi as a good intro to Unix. I run a pi 4 and windows. The raspberry is quite user friendly, for Unix, and I think it's basically easier too do anything easier since your running this pi, instead of some other Unix flavor. Personally I wouldn't want to run Linux under...

    way to get air stealthily

tysm! i'm reviewing all the *incredible* comments and ideas.... i really wasn't expecting much response, as i thought i was just being kind of , well, overly cautious. so for #10, edJ, .. i assume? the fan will require a hole to be drilled? or is this assuming one of the back windows would be...

    way to get air stealthily

i have a white chevy cargo van, which i'd like to use partly for stealth. so i'm keeping it as plain as possible, and actually will probably have to keep it CLEANER outside than i normally maintain my vehicles (most businesses maintain things better than i do). but how can i get ventilation when...

Can anyone give a very simplistic explanation on DIY internet in a van?

has anyone here used pcs for people? they provide pcs and internet for lower income people. might be the ticket. for a single person, the limit is about $25000, or certain programs (such as for the disabled) that also provide elibility. i use them just for data. i got a little hot spot... a cool...

i'm a newbie too... re: showers .... idk whether people are taking showers now, in public settings or not... i wouldn't, due to covid. this guy put out a nice video that i got a lot of tips from, on avoiding the knock. he's totally stealth... and he does this in LA....

So Happy I found The Nomads

welcome to the forums....... actually, bob did one video of a woman who lived in a very very sturdy canvas tent... the tent is designed for the desert. for my first trip (recently) i remembered my anti-bear training: no scents, no food scents, no peppermint scents... no scents! anywhere! enjoy...

    first trip! about to leave............

ty crofter... good advice. i'll have to get used to timing everything... in terms of food, and what lasts and what doesn't.

    first trip! about to leave............

ty for food info.............. i'm pretty careful, but yeah, i discarded my plan to do any frying in my van ............. um, unless i catch some fish. maybe i'll try to cook that outside my van, altho i'm not looking to cook outside. and like you, beachplease, i brought some ready made super...

    first trip! about to leave............

nightmare sorry for confusion - i woke FROM a nightmare of these three bears........ so, no, they weren't real. (altho they were terrifying, standing there upright, paws up, like monsters... they were obviously ready to wreak horrific havoc...........!) Qxxx - i camped in the boy scouts also...

hi new guy among other new guys i got a cargo van, chevy express, a la bob wells. i was worried it would be too small, etc,. inside.though, it seems good. on the outside, it's the biggest thing i'm comfortable driving........ altho i have trouble backing up still, due to the huge blind spot if...

    first trip! about to leave............

thanks all for the encouragement. had a very interesting trip.... my first van trip, as i said. i did the cooking kind of inbetween: i think i prefer the snack method, rather than the heating up method. i didn't do any cooking from scratch, but brought some home cooked things to heat up. i think...

    first trip! about to leave............

ty.......... i'm hoping for clear air... yes, trying to keep, at least the cooking, kind of simple... i watched some of the videos, actually abz van life, and she's not into a fridge. so that was pretty helpful. i got lots of snacks, fruit, couple stalks of brocoli. oh, uh --- since there's no...

    first trip! about to leave............

about to leave for my first trip. cargo van, sleeping on a car camping self inflating mattress, old classic coleman two burner converted to propane, a bunch of luci lights, 10 gallons of water......... what a new experience - i'm guessing one of the biggest changes will be just the new...

    Van Hunt!

in spite of my advanced age, prob everyone here is more experienced in vans than me. but i bought from enterprise car rentals.... i wanted to deal with a business, not a person, a place that turns over their fleet, etc... i suppose it has worked out ------- it's another option. maybe one you've...

    Box for Propane Tank

i'm following this thread with interest.......but when people say turning off the valve is good, that sounds kind of dubious. valves do leak, they develop leaks, idk about propane valves... but i'm a propane wannabe, at best.

    My van battery died suddenly

thanks, brian... i have one of those. it seems pretty accurate. i blew a fuse in my VOM. so that's why it wouldn't read amps. just gotta replace that. i'm assuming a current test on the panels will show if they are working correctly or not - independent of the controller.

    My van battery died suddenly

right now, i've put aside the van possibly draining the battery.. i guess i'm suspecting something was left on, as it happened overnight. i am trying to determine if my panels are ok. i'll deal with trying to test the current they are putting out... trying to locate the panel manuals to see if...

    My van battery died suddenly

too bad......... i'm getting frustrated... would like to be able to do a current test on my panels, which i tried to do. came up with zero amps, basically. i thought you basically 'shorted?' the panel leads, to read current............. kind of hard i guess learning solar on all new equipment...
