    Your dream vehicle, right?

Yeah, they got character!  Note I said "retro style" not restoration...  If it were mine, I'd upgrade to a Chevy small block with modern running gear and brakes... but still leave the 'cool factor' and patina intact.  As for seat springs, isn't that what Mexican blankets are used for... :D

    Your dream vehicle, right?

That is cool! Gotta love old trucks, stark interiors, rubber floor mats, the feel of those thin steering wheels in your hand, the smell of real leather and jute. I can envision that all fixed up into a retro style expedition style camper...

Progressive Insurance - what are the "magic words" to get a full-time van quote?

Lenny is correct, plus the ALPR's may also record an image to show context and to resolve any later disputes through human verification...  Government tax authorities and DMV's may also use the data to verify location of operation to determine presumed residency for purposes of income tax...

    Shocks

I find the best value and performance are the mid-line shocks, Monroe-matic or the Gabriel Guardian, better dampening control than the high dollar model at a more friendly price. The top of the line shocks are just way too soft and allow the body to roll and pitch too much. The mid-line shocks...

    Brake fade?

Check those back brakes...  If they aren't doing their fair share it throws all the burden up front and you get fade.  If your van saw any service in snow/salt areas, or just sat for a long time, the adjusters and wheel cylinders can rust and freeze up.  Also, carefully pull back the rubber dust...

2001 Chevy Express distributor cap, rusted screws

In my experience you can usually get away with a second-tier distributor cap but always, and I mean always, go with a premium rotor and wires. Beldin wires from NAPA are the absolute bomb! I've used the aftermarket distributors, but found the gears tend to be very soft and wear out quickly. A...

    Will I End Up Alone

Stargazer has some really good insight... Some people may call it law of attraction. Negative energy attracts negative energy and positive energy attracts positive energy... and positive people. Nobody wants to be around a 'Debbie-downer'... Oh...BTW, I have no reservation about saying I...

    Innocuousness

Back in the day...  I actually had a gal contact dispatch saying she was traveling and asked if she could stay over night in the PD parking lot.  As graveyard watch commander dispatch messaged to ask me if that would be Ok.  Of course it was all good... would much rather have her there safely...

    Soaking in Hot Springs!!!

Oh... man!  I'm good up to about 101º for a short time but then the fun-factor starts to wane...  Still, a hot-springs-palooza sounds like an epic adventure tour, so count me it!  Especially if there are some adult beverages for refreshment afterwards...  Too fun!  :)

2001 Chevy Express distributor cap, rusted screws

You'll just have to break off the plastic rotor to expose the screws and then use some visegrips. A drop of PB-blaster might help. If there's either red-ish dust/powder or oil residue under the rotor, the distributor is fubar'd and needs to be replaced. A new aftermarket distributor is in...

    Fuel 352 issues?

Hi Ryelarto,  Welcome to the forums.  Sorry to hear you're having issues with your new 5th-wheel.  That always sucks...  I'd think most of that would still be covered under your warranty.  Each of those are the little 'nag' and 'nickel-dime' type problems that plague most every new RV.  I have a...

The Less You Know, the More You Will Pay

Lack of skill and physical challenges are two different things.  Of course, with  physical limitations you would need to arrange for assistance and pay a mechanic so a larger reserve fund is wise.  Mechanical objects tend to fail prematurely and unexpectedly way more from neglected maintenance...

Popup Camper to enclosed travel trailer concept.

Randomly.... came across this photo of a guy who built up the sides of his to use as an ice shanty.  I would not recommend using residential windows but thought you might draw some inspiration.  Looks like vinyl siding.   Seems like it might be a bit tall when towing.

    Update, Retirement, etc

I have a typical 29' Class C (96" wide) but I wish it was about 5' shorter.  It's just a tad too long to fit in typical parking spaces and it's a pain to drive in congested cities.  I do like the interior space...and it's big enough to fit a bunch of family on trips.  However, when its just wife...

Popup Camper to enclosed travel trailer concept.

Build it super light...  The frame, axle, and tires were intended for basically a tent with some thin aluminum sides.  Most of the folks converting tent trailers into hard sides are doing "foamies", a composite of thin wood and foam walls covered with glue saturated fabric.  It's an interesting...

    Blacking out windows

Was intending to use 1/8" ABS (plastic) but that costs a whole bunch more.  Just couldn't overlook that 99 cent price, even if I have to remake it many times over...  It's been up there for a year, yes it's warped but still there doing it's job, and cash still in my pocket...   :)   Worst case...

    starting issues 1987 Dodge B250

The starter electrical connection to ground is through that bolt. That loose bolt might have contributed to the demise of the old starter... With rebuilt engines I'd also recheck the battery to engine ground cables as they sometimes forget to reconnect those.

    Blacking out windows

I used some black foam board to black out the skylight over the shower on my class C. I like it dark when I sleep and parking lot lights are bothersome when we boondock. I got it from a 99 cents store and it works as intended to block the light. I used it horizontal with some aluminum C...
