What issues with van sitting for 3-4 years?

i got, (and still have), a conversion van that had been sitting for 3 years. driven 3/4 times per year, so i was told. it needed some minor things but i've racked up thousands of miles on it since and its been great. these vans are pretty tough, but i guess it is a crapshoot.

    How are Dodge Vans?

i would avoid dodge vans from the 90's. they have a problem with frame rust/rot. i think from '92 and earlier, they are fine but the newer body style at around 1994 allowed water to get into the frame causing rot. when i was shopping for a van i saw many 1990's dodge vans with this problem. the...

    cig lighter inverter for laptop

thanks guys. looks like a DC to DC plug looks like the best option. i always hated the idea that DC has to go to AC just to go back to DC again. it wastes a lot of energy. and thanks, bob. i'll do a little more research, but it looks like that plug in the link you have will work.

    cig lighter inverter for laptop

hello again, guys. i'm having a problem getting the right inverter that runs from my vans battery using the cig lighter. all i would be charging is my laptop, which is a simple chromebook. not as sophisticated as other laptops.   i had a duracell inverter, but it had a cut-off when the car...

    '94 G20 broken power window

thanks guys. and thanks for telling me about the spring. i had had all the bolts off of the assembly when i first posted but couldn't get the window up. after un-doing the spring it went up no problem by hand and i jammed a block under it so it stays up. at this point, i just want the window up...

    '94 G20 broken power window

hi guys. i got a 1994 chevy  G20 conversion van. the drivers side window hasn't worked since i got it a year ago. it would sort of ka-chunk ka-chunk its way up and down, and only go down halfway.  but last time i tried it, it went past the half way point and will now do the same thing but only...

    Van Driving Style

when i had my '04 cavalier, i definitely kept up with traffic. now in my '94 chevy full size conversion, i do not, lol.  i have rules about that though. if it's a two lane road and no one is allowed to pass me, i either speed up or find a left turn lane to pull into to let them pass. but where i...

What did you, yourself, Repair recently?

well i wouldn't call them repairs, but preventive maintenance for my van.  fuel filter, full tune-up, oil change, still want to replace the transmission fluid and filter (but that job makes me a little nervous,  :s).  something related to the rear heater is leaking too, so i have to add coolant...

    offroading a van or minivan

not sure if you are including full-size vans? mine is a '94 chevy full size conversion (RWD) and i've taken it places i never thought it could. knowing how to get it through tough spots helps a lot. keep in mind that older full-size vans are built on the same chassis as the pick-up trucks of the...

    Very low mileage older rigs

parking on concrete compared to in the grass makes a huge difference over time. concrete dries up very quickly after it rains, humidity ALWAYS comes up from the dirt whenever the sun comes out, rusting out the vehicle from underneath

    which type of cooler?

Yes I do mean some type of evap cooler, if it can work. Humidity is very high here, think it was 94% a few days ago. So a desert cooler won't work here. Is there anything I can do about the heat? It gets as high as 115F in there sometimes and it's driving me nuts, lol. I have a fantastic fan and...

    which type of cooler?

I am currently in Orlando and its getting way too hot inside my van during the day. Which type of electric cooler works better in this climate? Someone mentioned on here that you can build a machine out of a cooler using a car radiater but I want to make sure it will work with the high humidity...

    Cheap and Free in Florida

in hollywood FL, overnight parking is allowed. but the metermaids are constantly checking cars to see if anyones staying inside (they go away at maybe 11pm, i just kept busy outside the car until then, plenty to do at the broadwalk). if someone has a good stealth car or van it could work. this...

What is weather in your area?

in new york, we had a high of 58 today, warmest it's been so far. this winter is not letting go. tonyandkaren, i'd definitely be interested in that. i'm pretty sure that's where i'm headed in a few days. mostly north and central FL.. i've lived in south FL already for a few years before, want...

    which adapter to use

thanks guys. i'd hate to buy another adapter when i have so many lying around. i'll try the 6V.

    which adapter to use

i have a small grundig radio with an adapter outlet on the side. it says it needs a 4.5V plug to work. i have a ton of old plug in adapters lying around, both cig. lighter and wall outlet type, i'm wondering if i can use one of those for it, but none of them say exactly 4.5V. (one of them does...

so its been running for 3 months straight through the brutal cold winter we had here. great. if i knew i never would've left it connected. the ******* manual SHOULD HAVE told me about this.

    inverter buzz when off

well, i just got off the phone with tech support. turns out there is a tiny second fan inside the inverter that is on as long as the battery is connected (also explains the spark when connecting). he said if you only hear it up close like i do, it's no problem. if it can be heard from 2 or 3...

Larger tires for better gas mileage?

ya it will probably get better mileage at 60mph, but will stress it more to get up to 60. it will sacrifice some low-end torque.
