Should I buy a New Van? Need help with this decision!

Let's put it this way... I would buy your van off of you if you sold it and went new. Why? Because you could tell me all about the good and the bad, and you live in it. You know how often it has been maintained, and the reliability. So I would sell it .. To yourself... For free.

    Stove options for heat

Yes.. 140 hours per gallon.. 20 lb tank is I beleive 4.7 gallons... I also confused the btu's.. It's 3200 on lo and 4500 on high. They claim 100 hours on high per gallon. I would think it would depend on a few factors, plus be hard to judge if your cooking and running a fridge etc... I think the...

    Stove options for heat

Yeah, highdesertranger, there is a local guy that does that. Mostly because he needs a longer chimney to get a good draft.

    Stove options for heat

As for a wood supply, I am a cabinetmaker, and have a lifetime of bone dry small offcuts at my disposal haha...

    Stove options for heat

All great points... It's still dependant on which rig I get, as well. I am leaning towards just a propane fireplace... Not very cold here( Vancouver , B.C.) but very damp! It has been raining for 11 out of the last 12 days.. And not sprinkling.. I mean RAINING! Plus I love the look of the fire...

    Stove options for heat

Haha.. I'm sure it's overkill.. I fully expect reality to take over... I live near Vancouver, in a mild climate.. It's mostly a need for ambient maintenance , moisture control( dry heat preferred), and I would like the ambience of a flickering flame. It's expensive , but I plan on doing some...

    Stove options for heat

I like the propane for convenience, and stealth( even a clean burning stove probably smells like smoke) but I like the idea of wood burning for times when money is potentially tight, or extended boondocking.. I would like both, but I'm wondering if I would begrudge the space if I end up mostly...

    Stove options for heat

Not sure if the Dickinson is a true gasifier ... I don't think it has the second chamber... But I think it has a manifold to burn most of the smoke.. I think once you get it going, it's pretty smoke free with properly seasoned fuel ... These are just ideas of my ideal( I think ) setup.. Reality...

    Stove options for heat

The unit is tiny... The fire box holds a few sticks or a handful of charcoal.. I think low is 3500 btu's and high is 8... I just like the idea of having a small efficient woodstove.. You could run it on dry twigs... If nothing else it's a dry heat option, and you can make it sealed/no cabin air...

    Stove options for heat

Hello everyone. I am mulling over some heating ideas. Anyone following just incredible on you tube has no doubt seen his $4000 dollar plus Kimberly wood stove. The Dickerson marine p9000 propane unit in his previous rig was pretty sweet , too. I love the idea of a wood stove.. Preferably a...

    Potential remodel...'76 chev 24' class c...

A box truck was my initial plan... I have more research to do, but insurance is a lot cheaper on an rv ...box trucks are commercial apparently , and rv conversions are not the easiest thing to insure... I still have to look deeply into that. Most likely if I buy this rv, I will probably outfit...

    Potential remodel...'76 chev 24' class c...

Haha. True. To be honest, I do know what I'm getting into. Rents where I live are incredibly high( Vancouver) and it will be a full time home. I prefer a bare shell so I can assess/fix any structural issues.. Insulate to my standards, run only the systems I need, and ensure easy access for...

    Potential remodel...'76 chev 24' class c...

Oh yeah. There is a fridge and microwave... It is wired for shore power , and had a generator, not included in the sale... There is a bed platform and laminate flooring at present. So it's actually usable for the basics to start as well... But shortly it will be re done haha.

    Potential remodel...'76 chev 24' class c...

Metal roof.. 24'... Its down to the bare skins inside, and comes with rigid foam insulation and a roll of reflectix... It is preferable, actually.. I was looking at 3 to 5 thousand for a rig, and you never know. I can put in all new apliances, water tanks , solar etc, with built in ease of...

    Potential remodel...'76 chev 24' class c...

So after much searching, I may be starting a major remodel. I had planned to buy a used rv with everything intact, but needing updating. I have come across a gutted, dry chev class c with a 350 four bolt. The engine is strong. Roof is reasonable ( I will replace soon enough) . There is no...

    Bed designs

It is based off of classic " campaign furniture". Not meant for daily set up/ dismantle. It was from an article by former editor of popular woodworking Chris Schwarz . The theory is cool, that your bed space could be free space during the day.. But constantly moving things to set up and...

    Hello.. Design phase newbie

I think it's the best way to go if you can. It's a very small space( which is part of the appeal) and I think you should maximize every square inch , including clean, uncluttered open space. Being organized will help it stay tidy, making you feel better, And looks better if the police knock on...

    Beginning the journey

As I understand it, those are designs you have seen and want to implement? I like them. I would ad that I would steer away from o.s.b. Board. It can gas off formaldehyde pretty good, as allowable levels for exterior grade is higher than interior plywoods( though some can be bad too.) there are...
