Clothing plan

I wash all the little things by hand and try to keep it small, doing a quick job daily. I don't need as many clothes that way too.
We rarely pay to do laundry in a machine.

    Antibiotics

Thanks for the info on the fish mox! The next time I need antibiotics, I'll go that route.
I know there are a lot of med for fish that you can get for use in humans, like ivermectin for all types of parasites, as well as antibiotics.

It's worth looking into for those...

    Home/holistic remedies

Feverfew for migraines. It works very well - homegrown only! The processed health store stuff doesn't work much for headaches.

Thyme and oregano as antibiotic/antiseptic. Both can be grown in pots in the sun.

Mint for asthma.

    Foraging For Food

We call the wild garlic "ramps". Those are great pictures! I find it really hard to believe all that greenery in Jan. I haven't seen the ground since October!

We had the sorrel too, everywhere in Ontario. I have occasionally eaten a handful while gardening. I don't know if...

    Anyone Eat Wild Mussels

    lol! You guys are funny!

I have been told to be careful where they come from, don't eat them from contaminated lakes and rivers. I would like to eventually end up at Lake Cowachin on Vancouver Island. It is, from what I have read, clean enough to drink as is. It has been a goal of...

    Minimisation

Even in a house with two kids, years ago, I figured out the dishes thing - when I got tired of dealing with mountains of dirty dishes. If you don't own a mountain of dishes, you won't have a mountain to wash. All you need is one of each for each person and a couple of extras for the occasional...

    Antibiotics

I'm in Canada and don't understand why anyone would want to come up here to buy meds.
You need a prescription for just about everything up here too and are they not a LOT cheaper in the US?

The only exceptions being what you can buy for fish and sometimes horses that you can dose...

    Clothing plan

Lots of underwear, socks and T-shirts.

I am wishing I had kept more cold weather clothing now. I had thought we would stay in the warm areas and never again spend a winter in the icy sub zero snowy regions, but I was wrong. I did bring barely enough, thank The Lord, but I gave away a lot...

Receiving goods while on the road

I like using the Gen Del for a small town where we will be going and having our mail forwarded there from here. We'll just put in a "change of address" at the PO (for a fee, of course). I think that's what we will do when we drive south...whenever that is...
We had been a little worried about...

    Anyone Eat Wild Mussels

I have done a lot of reading lately about how to prepare and cook mussels. I remember playing with them in the local lakes when growing up in TN. Now that we are preparing to move to a warm region of BC for the winters, I am looking forward to foraging for them.

<span...

Anyone try Pigeon, Crow or any other critter....

I have not had pigeon but have thought about it. I know people that eat it and even raise them, but just have not had the opportunity. I would happily eat it if I needed to. As for other wild birds, especially buzzards, eat only the legs!

I have eaten and liked: frog legs, sheep, rabbit...

    Homemade Solar Oven

We made our own solar oven from an old tire, glass top, aluminum foil and small satellite dish. It turned out well and works great! Just like a slow cooker! You can see how we made it <a...

Canned Broth or Bouillon Cubes - Which is healthier

Its probably more money too, eh?
So I guess the cheap stuff is just another way to salt and flavour a cup of hot water...
Obviously canned real broth his healthier.
You could add some herbs to it and small bits of canned meat and canned carrots and noodles to make your own, nutritious...

    Gardening...

I think it would be difficult to grow regular tomatoes and cukes in pots that have to be moved. They are huge plants that will grow along the ground and be very hard to lift and move without breaking. I've done that with tomatoes that I let get too big in the pots before planting out and it was...
