Wall Panels - 2 Fir or Not 2 Fir

I am getting ready to put in wall panels. I see many folks firring out and then installing panels. What is the reason for firring vs just attaching the panels to the wall ribs? I insulated with Thinsulate. No Reflectix or foam panels.

Maxxair as Far Forward as Possible

I am trying to create as much solar real estate as possible on my Sprinter. Looking for advice regarding a forward mounted vent fan. I want to install a Maxxair. The flat spot in the center between the second and third cross braces from the front is a no brainer but has anyone put it farther...

    Solar Panels - Questions???

I am putting together a solar system for my van. Considering 400 watts. Looking at solar panels and looking for ideas. * Is it better to have a single large panel or multiple smaller panels? * One thing I am not clear on: Shade - why does shading a small portion of a panel compromise so...

Open Cell or Closed Cell Foam in a Can

I see a lot of videos where folks are filling gaps and supports with Great Foam. They also GF around the poly-iso foam to seal as well as anchor it. My understanding is that Great Foam is open cell foam. That means it can absorb water. Closed cell foam does not. Has anyone used a...

Breather Material Between Wall and Polyiso

Anyone considered using something like this cedar shingle underlayent - (http://www.benjaminobdyke.com/products/cedar-breather-ventilated-underlayment/) - between their outer wall and polyiso insulation? Seems it would allow air to move between wall and polyiso, thus avoiding trapping moisture...

    Dealing with debt

You will be much more proud of yourself if you pay off the debt than if you do not pay it. How you got into your situation is not relevant to this discussion. Nor are any comments regarding your person for having the debt. Asking how to pay it off demonstrates your integrity. The 0% card is...

What do you think of this van?

Nice looking van but I would be concerned about the two doors out of alignment and the number of months on the lot. I'd take it to a frame shop for an inspection. Things out of alignment make me think twisted or tweaked frame.

Finally get to hit the road!

Does that mean she is laying you off on Friday? If not, is she firing you? I'd be looking into unemployment. Her letting you go may make you qualify.

    We have another rat

I had a packrat in my rv this summer. I tried the peanut butter on a can over a 5 gallon bucket. Everyday all the peanut butter was gone. I finally borrowed a small live trap and caught the bugger. It was actually quite a pretty critter but it had eaten a few wires and some other things so...

Still stressing out about my tools

I feel your pain. I had a complete cabinet shop before we sold everything and moved into the RV. Funny thing, about a month later I did not miss any of it. Life had changed for us and we were moving in a different direction. The voids left by sentimental things will be filled by new...

    Terrorism in Oregon

Bob - Thanks for your tolerance on this topic. on edit: I don't see a connection between the Bundy Occupation and the Hammonds conviction, other than Bundy's taking advantage of the demonstration and the Hammonds issue to initiate the occupation and gain media attention. I know the media has...

    Terrorism in Oregon

Canine, I see what you are saying but the clincher in your example is that the person could be convicted of a different crime committed in the original act. My understanding on this is that a judge determined that the original sentence was inadequate and ordered him back to prison on the same...

    Terrorism in Oregon

I'm not a lawyer nor am I very educated in these things but aren't they protected under the Double Jeopardy laws? They were accused, found guilty, sentenced and served their time. If they are charged or incarcerated again on for the same crimes isn't that Double Jeopardy? Where is the State...

Oppurtunities to pull money that entry-level low-skill workers can work TODAY!

If you don't mind hard work, and I mean HARD work, go to a warehouse that gets lots of trucks and look for day jobs as a "lumper". They are guys that truckers hire to unload their trucks. It's been a LONNNNNNNGG time since I was on the road but I hired a few. I paid cash. Some of those guys...

How do you deal with gift giving during the holidays?

Most all of our family are middle age adults now. We talked and agreed to no gifts. We make donations in each other's names. Works out great - no pressure and everyone is happy. If someone insists on giving a gift, tell them the best thing they could give is cash or gift cards. If we were...
