Van Interior Temperature

In direct sunlight with upper windows open and roof vent open the temp will be about 10 degrees hotter than the outside air temp. With the Roof vent fan running the inside temp is within 1 degree of outside air temp. My van has 1 inch of foam insulation under the paneling.
Solar Generators Worth It??

To shed a little light on the Buffalo tools Sportsman 1500/2000 watt generator. I purchased it around a year ago at Tractor Supply Co. here in Kansas for $169 on sale. It has a 2.4 hp OHV engine and a 1.4 I think gallon gas tank. It weights around 60 pounds full of fuel. It is a china made unit...

    Solar Generators Worth It??

I too have looked at the Honda & Yamaha generators and plan to pick one when my $169 buffalo tools sportsman 2000 watt gives up the ghost. I have 60 watts of solar on the roof, and a three stage 55 amp charger, and four group 31 deep cycles. The little china made generator is running my...

what kind of roof vent for stealth cargo van ?

I found my Fantastic Vent Fan at the local RV dealer for $179. It has the thermostat and is reversible with three speeds as well. I also got the Maxxair II vent cover and it works great for protecting the lid from high winds and keeps the rain out even in downpours.
Portable dehumidifier

I have that unit from Home Depot and it works well in my van camper.

    Coooling

I agree on the fantastic vent, they are awesome as are the maxxair II vent covers. A 5000 btu window unit in the back window and a small generator can be ran for 30-45 minutes later in the evening to cool the interior off from the heat of the day.

    propane tank locations

I have three 20 lb bbq bottles which I use to run my buddy heater. One stays inside the van all the time (secured), the other two ride on the hitch rack (secured). Every time a bottle is swapped out I spray all connections down with soapy water and inspect with a bright light. Of coarse I...

    Amps

I have 375 amp hours of battery capacity, 45 watts of solar on the roof, and a 1500/2000 watt generator. I fire up the generator to run the microwave or the coffee maker. My laptop is a acer netbook which only draws .8 to 1 amp. My lights are 12 volt 5 watt cfl type (.4 amp). My tv draws...

    Heaters for Vans

If your van is reasonably air tight, even when the buddy heater is properly adjusted you will reach levels of 20-30ppm or higher of carbon monoxide. When they say it is rated as indoor safe or approved for heating enclosures, they made the assumption that said enclosure would have air leaks and...

    Heaters for Vans

I heat with a Mr.Heater buddy series (MH9B). Items to get with it are carbon monoxide detector with digital readout (I use a Kidde brand from walmart), the little silver inline filter, the extension hose, and at least a 20lb lp bottle. If your van doesn't have a roof vent, I'd highly suggest...

    Community

Since moving into my van camper I have met a lot of new people, mainly curious people who wanted to know just how I do it and why I do it. While boondocking at work many of my coworkers took interest in the lifestyle, and heading out back to mike's place was common at break time.

New Beginnings in a 1995 Chevy Van

It's a blast figuring out those little things that make life better. Once you are living in your van, you will figure out pretty fast what works and doesn't. After a year of van living I still change things around, and make improvements.

    Home Depot attracts Vandwellers

When I arrived there to do some shopping I noticed three others were there too. I've seen them around town and parked in various spots but never met them, as they seem to keep out of site. Has anyone else seen or met others?
