What do you think about this truck?

IMO, as a rental truck in rough country like that I would probably avoid it. I interviewed with Budget in their truck rental division once and did not take the position because I did not like their "patch it and get it on the road" way of doing things. Not saying all companies are like that, but...

    Dodge 318 belt squeal

If the truck was in front of me, I would use my stethoscope to listen to each pulley, tensioner, and idler to isolate the source. How handy are you? If you are mechanically inclined, and think you can safely do so, I would get a small piece of wooden rod or a long screwdriver(a mechanic's...

Ford E350 high top - is this the one for me?

Probably less than a good motor.

Ford E350 high top - is this the one for me?

For $800 I would buy it. However I am not you, nor do I suggest you do so unless you are really ready to put a motor in it. It may not need a motor, but it may. His description of the noise sounds like power steering noise, but without hearing it I can't be sure. Resealing the gearbox is pretty...

    Dodge 318 belt squeal

IMO, that make pulley misalignment less likely. I would look at the load you are putting on the engine. It sounds as if it MAY be load dependent. Look at the accessories you are using when it is squealing. Turn them off and see if the noise goes away. Is your belt tension manually adjustable? or...

    Workamping question. Hog Island Meats

I won't be there this year. I decided to take the time and do it right. I am staying in Florida until spring. I do plan to be there next year though.

A new life for me !!!

Welcome Deborah. May I ask you a stupid question? If you have a laptop, why do you need a tv? Your laptop will, most likely, play your dvds and cds; and you can get tv for free online.

    The end of Slab City?

Statists just cannot abide people living freely. They must have you under their thumb.

Off grid, but on the radar. What about off the radar too?

I have 20 years or more until retirement. Given our national debt and given the fact that congress emptied SS's "lockbox" long ago, I have no expectation of receiving any benefit. Given those things, why continue to pay in to the system? Makes no sense to me.

    Workamping question. Hog Island Meats

Awesome gig and a great learning position. I am jealous. Not a cold weather person, so I look forward to learning from your experience on how you deal with it. Best of luck.

Mobile Handyman Service (rolling workshop ... have tools will travel)

I was planning to do the mobile mechanic/rv tech thing. I am still carrying a bunch of tools though I have pared down significantly. I mainly want to do generator/small engine repair, but will do any repair work people are willing to pay for. I also just bought a 6' long extendable squeegee...

    Dodge 318 belt squeal

When does it squeal? AC on or off? In a turn? Under acceleration? All the time as soon as it starts? Are you sure it is belt squeal and not bearing or pump noise?

Off grid, but on the radar. What about off the radar too?

No, but in the early days of my separation/divorce I seriously considered it.

Fixed misfire, now tune up time. Any precautions? Also, rust falling under the plugs?

I have been putting anti-seize on plugs on plugs since I started working on cars. I have never regretted it. Every mechanic I have ever worked with has done the same. A thin layer if anti-seize will not interfere with the ground path of the plug. I have never heard of that happening.

Fixed misfire, now tune up time. Any precautions? Also, rust falling under the plugs?

Use a very light coating of anti-seize on your plugs before installing them. Use the right plugs for the car. Gap them correctly. Use dielectric grease on your plug wire connections. Do the tune up one cylinder at a time. Change your plug wires also. Don't forget the fuel filter. I also always...
