    Water Tank Location

Hello all, I don't see what would be the appropriate subforum for this question, so I'm putting it here. I'm converting a 2015 Ford Transit Connect and would like to install a 20 gallon water tank under the back of the van, where the spare tire would normally go.  (I'm mounting the spare on a...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Thanks, good to know.  I'll definitely extra-insulate whichever fridge I end up getting.

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

So am I right in guessing you don't need it to be a "smart" charger because the battery's built-in management system keeps you from overcharging it?  So, for example, if you went off and left the charger on for too long it wouldn't be a problem?

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Thank you very much for all the information.  This is very helpful.  I had been wondering how to go about using the alternator to charge the secondary battery and had doubts about its ability to do so, but was saving those questions for down the road--but now I guess I have a game plan and will...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Oh I only just now noticed what you said here.  So instead of investing in the larger battery, maybe better to get the smaller one and instead invest in enough panels to keep up.  I still need to measure my roof and see how many watts' worth of panels I can fit on it (it's a Ford Transit...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Thanks, good point.  Yeah, I'll have the solar panels but also have it set up to be able to charge using the alternator, or shore power if need be.  Never had panels in fact--I just don't want to have to rely so heavily on running the engine or connecting to shore power like I've always done. ...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Yes, there have been hot stretches when I ended up running the fan 24/7.  I just want to be prepared for the heaviest power consuming days.  My cat also lives in the van with me.   I have a voltmeter, but I don't think I've measured current, just voltage and continuity.  Anyway, I think I'm...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Thanks for the video link and the general ballpark idea of what the fridges consume.  I'm not set on getting the Dometic--maybe I'll try the one he reviewed.

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Ok, I see, thank you.  So in the end it is comparable to the Engel?

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Yes, I plan on having 200W of solar panels.  I tend toward hot climates and end up using the vent fan non-stop during the heat of summer, day and night.  I'm sure there will be plenty of times when it is overcast or stormy outside (so no or mininal solar panels charging) yet plenty hot enough to...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Thank you, this is very helpful.  Ok, so with the Engel fridge on the hottest day the compressor might be on 80% of the time, so I would be looking at: 2.5*(.8*24hrs)=48Ah.  As for the Maxxfan, the internet has conflicting information, some saying the highest setting draws 4.4 to 5 amps, others...

    Amp Hours--I don't get it

Hi, can someone please help me make sense of calculating how many amp hours worth of battery I need, taking the Dometic cfx28 fridge as an example?  Here is the published info on the Dometic site, and it might as well be in Greek: ELECTRICAL Input voltage (AC) 100-240 V Input voltage...

    Ceramic Window Tint

Well, when Ralph saw the pictures of my windows, he realized there weren't as many windows as he had been thinking when I said I wanted to do an entire van, and so he said he was going to sell me all the material for only $200 instead of $300. $200 is their normal price for material for a full...

    Heat generated from solar panels

I see, thanks for clarifying that   So, about their performance, can you say anything about that?  Have you tried them?  Thanks.

    Ceramic Window Tint

I can understand that thinking.  On the other hand, after having just had a phone conversation withDan Harris, owner of Carmeltint in Carmel, Indiana, I'm more keen than ever to try the Nanoflex.  He has no reason to puff or lie to me--someone in Salt Lake City who won't be his customer since...

    Heat generated from solar panels

Anyone?  This sounds like a great idea.  I'm searching through this forum trying to find out whether flex panels are worth getting.  Bad reviews because of overheating kind of turned me off to flex panels, even though they are what I would prefer since they don't stick up too high off the...

    Ceramic Window Tint

This really has been a fascinating rabbit hole. I've learned quite a lot about the world of window tinting in the last few days. The whole industry is in transition, having been disrupted by nano-ceramics. Traditional tinters' wisdom is "the darker the better" for staying cool in both the...

    Ceramic Window Tint

Well wish granted, I'll be the guinea pig. There is no shop that carries Nanoflex here in Utah, so I'm buying the pieces I need directly through Ralph, the sales rep in all those youtube videos (who has been very helpful and really seems to know nano ceramics far beyond the typical tinters)...

Has anybody here tried the Nanoflex?:

    Tinted Windows?

Yes, going for stealth, no Reflectix on the outside. For the windshield and front driver and passenger windows I've installed two layers of Reflectix ,with at least an inch gap between each layer. On the windshield, the first layer wedges up behind the van upholstery right behind the...
