    Flex Panels Worth It?

Thanks for the information!  I'm thinking I'll avoid flex panels.  As far as traditional panels, is there a brand you'd recommend over others?  I was thinking of getting three of their 100watt panels together with their MPPT controller, but that's only because I keep hearing that brand name...

    Flex Panels Worth It?

Hello all, this question is a little more straightforward.  Are flex panels worth it?  Is there someone here who has used them successfully for more than two or three years without having problems?  If so, what brand would you recommend? I'd rather use flex panels on my small Ford Transit...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

Thank you.  Exactly!  I've been hoping I can just afford to buy all the big components and then to pay someone to put it all together for me.  I know of a shop here in SLC that does van conversions, but talking to the guy, I realised there's not the necessary experience there with a lithium...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

So I guess all those things are what this device does, right?  Sorry, very novice.  Also, am I correct in understanding that I can use this battery to battery device in the same system which also has solar panels and an MPPT controller?  I understand that the battery to battery device would not...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

I have the Battle Born 100ah lithium battery.  So when you say a form of external regulation is needed, is that what this battery to battery device by Renogy does?

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

I personally don't know--I'm the novice here just trying to learn as much as possible.  But now that I've got your attention, would you mind giving me your two cents on using that Renogy device on my 2015 Ford Transit Connect--not the Transit, but the smaller, 2.5L, 4 cylinder Transit Connect? ...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

Yeah, not you, but someone said it.  So does FORD mean Fix or Repair Daily, or Fail on Research and Design?  So far in my experience it's been more the latter (poorly designed transmission and stupid so-called "courtesy lights" that come on when you open a door.  On the bright side, with the...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

And thanks for the encouragement.  I'll be so happy to be on the road again!  Being in a Salt Lake City winter was never and will never be my plan, but because I didn't get started on the conversion project earlier this summer, here I am.

Thanks for putting it in perspective!

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

I really am curious who are these Ford people and alternator mechanics that it is suggested I talk to. I have never had luck trying to ask questions of the guys at the Ford dealers (much less the 800 number). If I am not there to purchase something, they don't like to give me the time of day...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

Not sure what model vent fan is in my old Roadtrek.  But I think the problem was more in the constant usage without properly maintaining the batteries.  I too frequently drained the lead acid batteries way below threshold and also hooked up those batteries to a stupid charger and left it on too...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

I have the Battle Born 100ah battery.  In my roadtrek I killed multiple lead acid batteries with my vent fan.

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

I wish I didn't feel like I was trying to reinvent the wheel here for a very basic system that surely many vandwellers have.  I mean, my main consumer is a 5 amp vent-fan.  Why does it seem so difficult to figure out which components I should get?  I don't have a schematic or diagram to show...

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

In fact those terrible reviews are part of the reason I'm here asking around.  So now that leaves me wondering if I should also forego the solar panels and MPPT controller by Renogy and look for another brand?

Charging from Alternator via Renogy's DC to DC Charger

Does anyone here have actual experience using the 20 amp version of the device mentioned in this video on a smaller van (eg, Ford Transit Connect) or a similar device by another brand? Unfortunately, the reviewer does not mention whether this device would be compatiblw with the solar charging...

    How to Charge Lithium Battery

Nowhere in his video reviewing the Renogy B2B device does he mention whether the device can work side by side with a solar charging system controlled by an MPPT charge controller. Comments he made in his earlier video about the warning lead me to doubt the advisability (something about how the...

    How to Charge Lithium Battery

Yes, I watched the guy's video on the Renogy B2B device and his earlier video about the dangers of charging from the alternator.  His later video on the B2B device seems to contradict the earlier video, so I am left not knowing whether it is ok to use the 20 amp device on my Ford Transit Connect...

    How to Charge Lithium Battery

So in the comments of the video on that Renogy B2B charger, someone mentioned this all-in-one 20amp B2B charger with MPPT by Ctek: https://www.amazon.com/CTEK-40-186-Automatic-Battery-Charger/dp/B005LBCVL4 Can anyone here say which would be a better option?  Should I go with the Ctek device...

    How to Charge Lithium Battery

Yup, that 20amp B2B charger by Renogy is the one I was planning on getting.  Ironically enough, I got scared off of using it after talking to a Renogy tech who told me it wouldn't work with a solar charge controller and that I would have to get their all in one B2B charger with MPPT controller...
