Those thread inserts are actually to stop oil from fouling up the plugs, on pistons with oil bad rings. Seems like a cheap and sensible solution to the bad thread design.

You been lucky on the Mustang. Occasionally they blow out of the engine when the threads have  been weaken over the years. I have a 98 Gt convertible and love it.

Here is what I look for in a van. 1.  Overdrive automatic 2.  3-4 core heavy duty radiator. 3.  Engine and transmission oil cooler 4.  Almost new tires 5.  Reliable v-8 6. Good heavy duty suspension. You get all that and you can build to suit your lifestyle.

I agree the Triton and v-10 had issues. I had both a 6 cyl. and a v-8. I personally like the v-8 best. You start adding weight to a 6 cyl. van and you will suffer both in gas mileage and power.
