Solar in the Pacific Northwest ..... Feasible ?

Actually I do not know if I need that much power or not. I am clueless about Solar. I need enough power to use a 650 watt light bulb, and a ballast half of the day. I guess I may could step down to an all LED bulb of 400 watt equilivant if completely necessary.

Solar in the Pacific Northwest ..... Feasible ?

Ok ... I have been beaten into submission by a friend, and eventually I will look into goingt ahead with Solar. So please help me with this ... Is it possible to assemble a system which can offer say 1500 watts under those cloudy grey skies , AND do it in a cost efficient way as well ? I KNOW...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Talk about a hard few days ... Just sitting in the house, with 29 degree temps outside. But tomorrow is supposed to be nice enough. So we are going to see what we can accomplish tomorrow, and will provide photos of our progress.

Yuck ... just yuck LOL. While my son is here, it has turned cold, rainy, and windy. So interior work it is I guess ... tht is after he gets over the stomach bug. Rains it pours huh ! When he's feeling better, we will work on ths interior some more.

Time to paint the exterior ..

Hmm ... does anyone have a suggestion how many gallons of paint I should buy for everything below the windows, and also everything above the windows ? I was thinking two gallons for the roof and windows area, and two or three for below the windows.

Thanks for the link. But the ONLY reason I would own a wood burning stove, is to be able to watch the fire through a glass window. If that is not an option, I would rather have the Propane set up.

    Bus Transformation

Yes sir ... it is a bit pricey. But it is a lot cheaper than a quality wood burning stove, and cleaner to boot. We will be living where nights are cold, damp, humid, and needing good heat. For me it is peace of mind. What I really want is this !! But as Yoda would say " Wealthy, I am not". .

Actually a vented propane heater, which IS fully rated ok for CA, like this one is fine for condensation : http://www.wayfair.com/18-000-BTU-Wall-Space-Heater-DV21L-DV21N-XXC1060.html

Time to paint the exterior ..

This is just wonderful, having a Professional painter giving advice! I am so grateful. I have never used a sander like that, but do have limited experience with an air D.A. Do you think this would be easier than using a simple sanding block and say, 100 grit ? I don't know how heavy or...

Time to paint the exterior ..

Wow ! This thread really exploded with some great information. I sure appreciate it too. But a bit of bad news seems to have appeared ... I decided to start sanding the bus, just to see what I was going to be in for. I thought this was the best approach, but I think I have wasted valuable...

Wow Gus ... I was definitely narrow minded there LOL. The coldest I have ever been was while in Fargo ND ! Hellish experience ... and I mean REALLY bad. So I see why you need to do it up so well. I should have read a little deeper before responding

Time to paint the exterior ..

Hello all ... I worked with my son on the bus today, and we started the sanding process of prepping the bus. This brought up a couple of questions .... I sanded with 220 grit, but this seems awfully smooth for new paint to adhere to. Since I am rolling the new paint on, should I consider...

    Bus Transformation

Good point about the price Bob. Maybe I was lucky, but my Styrofoam board only cost $11 per sheet, and I only used 4 sheets of it. I never priced the batts of insulation in a bag, but I would be shocked if it is a lot cheaper than what I spent. I certainly never meant to suggest my way was the...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Hello again ... My son has came to town, and will be staying a couple of weeks to help me TRY and get the bus prepped and painted. As always seems to happen, Murphy's Law kicked in, and the weather the past two days has been below freezing here in south central TX ... go figure. We have a couple...

    Bus Transformation

Hi again Gus ... I completely understand what you are saying about the bus only having to last for so long. But I can 100% promise you there is absolutely NO easier way to insulate a bus, than how we did the foam board. We left the old insulation in place inside the walls, and then added 3/4"...

Thank you Gus. My wife really wants something that fits her eclectic tastes ... and she has always wanted a brightly Gypsy cart. So we threw caution to the wind LOL.
