MOTORHOME FAILURE!!!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune! Glad things worked out in the end.

I'm sitting in the waiting room of a repair shop as I type this and I've got my fingers crossed that I won't have to replace the fuel pump.

Cheap, easy eating from Old Mexico

After checking out the price of non-resident fishing licenses in the states I want to visit, I'm pretty sure that it will be cheaper to buy fish. It's really a shame since I'd enjoy doing a little fishing.

    new and ever so ready

A shotgun locked in the trunk is useless. Kind of like an unloaded gun with a trigger lock on it....makes a danged awkward club, but that's about it. I guess the best plan would be to avoid states with stupid laws.

Cheap, easy eating from Old Mexico

I've spent quite a bit of time in Old Mexico and I am amazed at how flavorful, filling and economical the food is. I thought I'd pass on some of what I've learned.

Beans are omnipresent in Mexico. They are eaten at least once a day and often at every meal. Beans are good...

I just bought my first camper van!

I just set er up for the first time at an RV park and everything works! I LOVE IT! I'm sitting on the couch being gently rocked by the West Texas winds...my schnauzer contentedly snoozing at the foot of the couch. I can reach over and get a cold water out of the refrigerator...

RVing for the First Time in Mexico

Placing my head in my hands and shaking my head. You have done your research a little too well. Unfortunately a lot of the information that is available in books or on the internet doesn't really apply or is now completely wrong. I lived in Mexico from 2009-2011. I...

    Searching for Water

I worked at a resort one summer where we had a dump station and sold potable water as well. It was a frequent occurrence that we'd have to run outside and yell at some idiot that after dumping their blackwater tanks, they'd detach the hose from their RV and stick it up to the potable water...

I just bought my first camper van!

I'll post some pics in the next day or two. It's in the shop getting checked out and serviced. I bought a cargo trailer to go behind it yesterday. I'll try to take a picture of the entire rig out. I love my new-to-me van!

    Lentil stew

That's not at all a dumb question! No they do not need to be pre-soaked. You can if you want to, but that is one of the great things about lentils, they cook quickly.

    Lentil stew

Try it once as it is written. It seems like it would need to be tweaked a bit, but it is wonderful as it is.

I'm currently stuck staying in a motel for a couple of days and having to eat out. I'd give anything if I could make some of this. The food is awful and wayy over...

    Texas Mail Forwarder other than...

I am in far west Texas. It is a bit over 80 miles one way to the nearest grocery store from my house. Same thing for the nearest hospital. That really hit home when the first week I was here I stuck a filet knife through my hand!

SKP refused to forward my mail after I...

Anywhere that there is some kind of reasonable amount of sunlight, solar ovens are the way to go. I cook with mine daily. Here's the one I have: http://www.solarovens.org/ It makes the most wonderful...

    Lentil stew

This is very economical to make and makes tons. This is my favorite soup and it is so simple! I normally make it with my parabolic solar cooker, but it takes about the same amount of time on a stove top too...it takes about an hour.

1 pound of lentils
3 carrots
4...

    MRE's?

You are much better off to make your own, it is cheaper and probably better for you. There are lots of products that are dried or don't need refrigeration. They even have things like tuna in little mylar bags now. There are all kinds of dried fruit, jerky, small cans of fruit...

Social Security - USA - ONLY FISCAL SOURCE

Offroad if you are within any kind of reasonable driving distance of Mexico, I'd go there to get your tooth looked at. A lot of times folks will save so much money by going there to have work done that even with the trip expenses it ends up being half price or better.

Social Security - USA - ONLY FISCAL SOURCE

In my younger days I used to train horses. I can even do my own hoof trimming and simple shoeing. Does that qualify me as a horse mechanic?
