Need help choosing a fan speed controller please.

Sea Choice In-Line Bilge Blower PN: 41841 has a 76mm fan capable of moving 240cfm of air and requires a 5A fuse, but I do not know how many watts.  I would like to speed-control two of them, and I know absolutely nothing about pulse width modulators with the exception that I know you don't want...

    Frame Rust?

I don't think this is "that bad" ...yet.  It needs to be tended to like, right now, with some Rust-Oleum or POR-15, but it appears structurally sound, and the rust only seems to have damaged the finish of the frame so-far - that's what I'd guess from the pics anyway.  Man, Oh is hard on a car...

    Another van for CRVL pre-inspection.

A quick NADA search told me that they're asking top retail price for this van, and maybe it's worth it, but if you're not mechanically knowledgeable enough to give it a thorough inspection, have it looked over by a pro to be sure - better to throw away $60 than $6,000. It would seem to me that...

Floor vents - direct or ducted?

Had to necro this thread since it inspired my design (along with a few other helpful threads out there - many thanks to y'all), but I wanted to post & get some thoughts & opinions on this prospective setup. Yeah, I get bored & like to play with pictures, so make fun of my potato-shop skills...

    Let's Talk Vintage Campers

I was just going by what I found online, but it's always good to have real numbers.  Of course, there are huge variables that affect those numbers (tire size & tread type etc.)- I'm one of the lucky ones that gets better than the EPA avg. MPG for my Ranger, but I know most people don't.  I drive...

Anyone 'dwelling in a shorty van?

Thanks for all the feedback.  I was asking because I'd found a specific van that I was considering because it had some rare features, and I didn't want to dismiss the option if it were at all feasible.  The one I was looking at had a slant-six with a 4-on-the-floor manual trans, A/C & cruise...

Anyone 'dwelling in a shorty van?

For sure, I've heard folks in smaller vans wishing for a bigger one, but I've yet to hear of anybody living in a van that says, "I just wish I hadn't gotten the big one." Cotton

Anyone 'dwelling in a shorty van?

I'm considering a short wheelbase full-size van because it has a lot of features that I like, but I'm just not sure if there's enough room. I know there are people out there in minivans, but the vast majority are in comfortably living in extended vans. Any words of advice from someone that...

    Chevy Express Dually

Here's an E350 dually for sale. It's not factory, but it's cool looking. The pic in the OP looks like it may be sporting fenders from a Dodge Mega-Cab.

There's always a trade-off for MPG's when it comes to towing capability. The good news is that a 4x4 Dakota with a V-8 gets about 20MPG unloaded, and that's not bad for a truck that can tow close to 4 tons.

Very true.  Whatever the tow rig is, it will need a trailer brake controller to safely operate the brakes on the trailer. My honest recommendation here is that you should look into a Toyota Tacoma (6,500lbs.), Nissan Frontier (6,500lbs.), or Dodge Dakota (~7,400lbs).  Try to get an extended or...

Might buy van in Denver/possible altitude complications?

I don't think I'd consider Denver to be a good place to buy a vehicle if you're worried about the effects of winter salt. I'd also recommend you stay away from vehicle that lived too close to the coast as well since the salty air tends to take its toll as well. I think you might be better off...

    Let's Talk Vintage Campers

Funny, but it's very true!  A lot of people sell garbage under the "classic" façade. As far as pricing goes (for vehicles), there's always Kelly Blue Book and NADA that will help you get a base-line of what to expect.  Personally I always assume "book value" to be high, so I only use it for...

Where to start with Chevy Express Steering/Brake Issue?

If you don't have a garage, then try AutoMD. I like to fix things myself when I can, but sometimes I'll pay for an hour of diagnostics just so I know exactly what the problem is, and from there I can judge whether to spend the $ to have it done, or if it's something I can do myself and save...

    Aftermarket cruise control

Some require an under-hood module and/or a single wire to be run in the column depending on application, but the way I understand it Fords are very straight-forward.  I wish I knew more about the "other two" though, particularly GM. Cotton

    Diesel engines in a van?

I think we've confused running straight waste veggie oil with making biodiesel.  If you want to run fry grease right out of the cooker, a quick search turned up this pricy conversion kit:  GreaseCar

    Diesel engines in a van?

What little I've read, WVO needs to be heated in order to burn properly, so typically it's used in a dual tank setup where one tank would have pump diesel for starting, and used again just before killing the engine to clear the fuel lines, and a heater placed inside the WVO tank takes a few...

    Diesel engines in a van?

I found this thread to be particularly interesting because I've considered this topic for myself about a million times.  I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the ability to run alternative fuels in a diesel (WVO) as well as being able to use things like diesel heaters. The fact is that...

    Mornin'

Hello everybody,  I'm Cotton.  I've been lurking for a minute, and I thought I'd drop in and introduce myself. I'm a 35yo Texan and Navy veteran.  I'm medically retired even though I still have all of my limbs which sometimes embarrasses me to talk about, but I figure y'all don't seem so bad...
