    Anyone have a Freeway kit?

Something to sleep on (air mat has been my choice but a cot will work too), sleeping bag and/or blankets, a way to cover the windows, a single burner camp stove, a headlamp, a camp chair, a TV stand (for a table) and a road atlas.    Take a look at all the basic stuff about vandwelling that Bob...

    Anyone have a Freeway kit?

I'd never heard of it before, thanks for including the link. Not a bad way to go for a lot of people who have the money!

    North East Gatherings?

You missed the part where I said I was from the west .... We are talking about boondocking and dispersed camping aren't we?

Is a foodie really suited to this?

A drip cone, a coffee filter & boiling water make me a great cup every morning. I bought my whistling kettle from a goodwill store, donated the old one to the same store right after I bought it.

What vehicle am I searching for??

In my mind there is no real difference in which of the big 3 you get (I'm talking full sized van). Individual models might have specific problems. I've had all 3 over the years. Mileage, figure 11-14 mpg (very ballpark), probably towards the higher.

Is a foodie really suited to this?

Cheap starter set up- Second hand stores are great places when you want to save. Air mattress- $15 new at Amazon or walmart...

how many miles are to many when buying used ?

My ballpark number for mileage on more modern vehicles is 250,000 miles.  I do the math to see how many miles are left on the selected used vehicle.  I make an educated guess on how many miles I will drive in a year, I do the math again to see how many years the vehicle will last me and divide...

Another "Newbie" or better put "Newbie wanna Be"

It gets too cold in up there in the winter for me! In southern Florida I was in shorts & filp-flops all winter, which is what I wanted.  FWIW there are a lot of people most everywhere, you can have elbow room in the desert but it's not southern Florida!

    choosing a van

Minor dent, I honked just before she bumped me.  I could not believe she'd back up without actually looking first... Just a heads up kind of thing.

    choosing a van

A couple of months back I was in a grocery store parking lot waiting for my turn to get out of the lot, a lady backed out of her spot right into me. She never looked as she had a backup camera ... I didn't show up in the camera. I was stopped 3 feet behind behind her and didn't show up on the...

    choosing a van

I use 250,000 miles as my marker on newer (1996 and up) vehicles, I've had many that went well over 150k. It's a ballpark figure. Good talk about an emergency fund.... The newest model year and lowest mileage you can afford. I'd give some serious thought to a used Pleasure-way, we had a '97...

Have cargo van, want to add a TT. Advice?

A van pulling just enough travel trailer always sounded like the way to go.

Any Sugar Beet Harvest workers here?

Do you know of any other harvests that look for workcampers, pay well & will accept people with zero experience?

    Convince me not to

Find someplace you like, get a job. Get an apartment, house or whatever, sell your van (or keep it as a vehicle). Call the vandwelling a learning experience rather than something you were tricked into trying & go on to what ever it is you're going to do next. It's your life, live it how ever...

$600,000? Wow! Sounds like it's a polite way of saying "go away"!    Anyone can spend the $40 for a 2 week pass in the LTVA and camp where they want.... even Bob.

    Million Ways to Make Meatloaf

For me a meatloaf has to be good sized, the purpose is sandwiches the next day so there has to be enough for dinner too. Ground meat, usually more than one type (beef, pork, chicken or turkey).  Oatmeal, or crumbs, or cooked rice. An egg per pound of meat. Spices of some sort, I used onion soup...

    Convince me not to

If you really want to runaway you don't have to build a van. An air mattress from walmart, a sleeping bag (or blankets from the thrift store), a camp chair, a TV tray for a table, an led head lamp, a butane can stove to make your coffee (or  propane camp stove) and a pot to make the coffee in...
