Starlink - The Scoop From A Nomad

No concerns about the new data caps? The wife and I have been hovering between 500 and 700GB a month. We should be good, but some others are screaming bloody murder

Songs about nomadic life, homelessness, etc.

Funny, the wife and I just drove through Raton and it snowed. Never heard of this song before.

Chinese diesel heaters don't work above 5000 feet elevation. Buyer beware!

I'm at 6156 feet and my Chinese diesel heater is working fine. I did have to replace some parts with better quality ones and the control board tab was broken off when I opened it up. It tosses an e-08 error unless it's lined up perfectly, but after I fixed that, no issues. $139 and another $100...

Why in the actual are urine separators so damn expensive?!

Most soap will break down naturally when exposed to the elements. Most chemicals will revert to natural, stable elements, also. Even poisonous chemicals will break down to harmless components with enough time. Fungi and bacteria are constantly fixing what mankind keeps breaking. Even global...

Why in the actual are urine separators so damn expensive?!

I paid, I think, $30 for a urine diverter from Etsy. A gentleman there sells 3d printed ones. He also has a kit that has exhaust hoses and fans to suck out any smells. Wife loves our luggable loo bucket with urine diverter. No issues emptying the bottle on a grassy area. Good for the plants...

    Fuel tank for diesel heater.

I used a marine 6 gallon fuel tank. Tossed the Chinese made fuel tank after reading about someone's tank springing a leak down the seam.

    Best Blanket

Best? A down quilt designed for backpacking. I have a 20* down quilt from Enlightened Equipment that's kept the wife and I warm down to 10*F. Of course, it costs more than some folks vehicles.

You don't need a gun in the wilderness

I'm of the opinion that the founding fathers had it right when they wrote that every person has the right to arm themselves. Every person has the right to live. Every person has the right to defend their right to live. No one has the right to tell someone how, or limit their right to defend...

    1/2 ton camper

I have a Gofast camper on my Ranger. Works well as a cap, tent pops up into a wedge. Tent floor is removable so can easily standup in it. I'm 6'3" and didn't have a problem. However, my 5' wife couldn't get into it without a stepladder. Can enter the camper from either the tailgate end or a...

    Traveling with firearms for security

We ran into a couple from Alaska who re-used those discarded black gallon jugs to heat water for showers. Set them out in the sun in the morning filled with water and in the late afternoon, strip down and dump the water over your head. I guess that area used to be a smugglers highway a few years...

When computer is necessary Vs IOS ?

Linux isn't bad, I've played with flavors of KDE, Ubuntu, CentOS...it's the only reason I could halfway support Apple products in my past life as a desktop support specialist. I would much rather be a sysadmin with my focus on enterprise security than deal with users again. Sorry, but willfully...

When computer is necessary Vs IOS ?

Use whatever works and you're comfortable with. Personally I hate apple and iphones with a passion.

Starlink - The Scoop From A Nomad

There was so much wrong with Robins video, I had to unsubscribe. So much wrong. As someone who tried weBoost, and nomad internet, and now happily using Starlink, there is no comparison. Starlink is far and away the best provider. It's still kind of awkward setting up and tearing down compared...

Keeping warm in sub-freezing weather, using only a tiny amount of fuel for heat.

There is nothing like snowshoeing or skiing in fresh snow. Keeping warm is not the problem. Staying cool enough to not sweat and soak your clothes is. Winter is the snow is special.

Starlink - The Scoop From A Nomad

If only I could keep the birds from perching on the edge of Dishy and pooping on it... I had NomadInternet at first and hated it. Only worked half the time. Kept sending me modems and sim cards and never crediting me for the time I paid for and it didn't work. Four months with Starlink and no...

    RvNaut

You've never experienced the Maine State bird, the black fly? Or been swarmed with mosquitoes, deer flies and greenheads? Never experienced mugginess so thick you can't breath? Or pollen, for that matter. Can't walk in the woods unless you spray yourself down with insect repellent or treat your...

TN makes camping on public land a felony

I'm sure the authorities will be more than happy to tow it off for you while giving you a night in resort-like accomodations. I guess the lesson here is keep an emergency fund and your vehicle maintained.

TN makes camping on public land a felony

The law states that the violator has 24 hours to move and will only be charged if they refuse to move after 24 hours. I think the felony charge is a tad excessive.

    Keep your vehicle doors locked

There was something I read a few years ago attributing the drop in crime rate to removing lead from gasoline. People are more aware of the consequences of their actions because their brains are more developed without being poisoned by lead in the environment. It may be why murder rates are so...
