Living in a Semi Truck Trailer?

Mr. Cob, it's inspiring to hear your story and see how successful you were. I'm glad to know that this is something that people do. For me, I'll be building my stealth, so that I'm less likely to get noticed in rest stops and such; I do recognize that it's probably not necessary, but my current...

Living in a Semi Truck Trailer?

Thanks for the input Motruckdriver, I really appreciate your experience and expertise in the matter. This is a project I'm undertaking once money is no longer an issue for me after a few years of working an computer science job out of a van, and I can work remotely. As for the shipping...

Living in a Semi Truck Trailer?

So I'll keep this on my property sometimes, but otherwise I'll be parking the semi truck out in rest stops, then taking my car out of the truck to go into town. I'll be getting a used truck, their actually pretty cheap on Craigslist. @wagoneer, what do you mean by Volvo? did they do something...

Living in a Semi Truck Trailer?

Right off the bat, I want to add I'm talking about not work related living in a converted semi truck w/ trailer, not working and living at the same time. (However, trailers could be swapped to have a haul and a living trailer). I'm drawing up a floor plan, with a garage bay for a small...

How would you sell your van?

I'm looking to downsize and get a manual station wagon for part-timing, and I'm running into a lack of interest on Craigslist (It's a 250k mile 2005 Ford E150). How would you guys try to sell your van, either as a conversion or non-conversion van?

Has anyone ever converted a truck into a van?

I'm thinking of buying a long pickup truck and converting it into a can by removing the pickup bit attached to the chassis and welding a custom built box to the back. Has anything g like this been done? Successfully?

Is this transmission bump an immediate concern?

It shifts into OD hard then drives in OD just fine. Once it's upshifted a few times up the hill, no issue. @bardo What do you mean? The OD serves this purpose doesn't it? Also, I measured my ATF and at cold it was out of range over the hot, so there is way too much. I'll take it into a shop later.

Is this transmission bump an immediate concern?

I have a rebuilt transmission on a 2005 Ford E150. I have a warranty for the rebuild that's still in effect, but the company went out of business.  Whenever I shift into 4th gear (overdrive) and am going up a steeper incline, the van bumps and rattles vigorously. It doesn't last, and after...

Inverter DC voltage drop causing low voltage cutoff.

I figured it out, I touched the negative battery wire and the voltage shot up over two volts. Damn bolt holding the connection to the inverter had shaken loose -- tightened now. The poor connection increased resistance which under any load caused voltage drops. @highdesertranger 12.5 isn't low...

Inverter DC voltage drop causing low voltage cutoff.

That is right now, this morning it was hitting 9.5 V. I'll try it again when it's singing.

Inverter DC voltage drop causing low voltage cutoff.

The voltage drop from my batteries to my inverter is .3 V, with the load of my refrigerator running, while my inverter drops .4 V for a total drop of .7 V

Inverter DC voltage drop causing low voltage cutoff.

So my batteries measure according to my charge controller and multimeter to be 12.5 V. My inverter reads 10.5 and under load as low as 9.5 V. If it hasn't been loaded in a few hours, it'll only drop .4 V saying 12.4V at 12.8 real volts. Has anyone else had this problem? Have you found the...

Using Raspberyy PIs to Watch HD TV on the Go

It's definitely not Windows, sorry I didn't mention that. I didn't know about 12V monitors/TVs, but if they're a thing you could definitely do 100% no AC power for this. Just a 5V regulator for 5$ off Ebay and maybe a 12V one for monitor and you're set.

Using Raspberyy PIs to Watch HD TV on the Go

So I didn't want to completely forgo my daily ritual of a Youtube video or TV show before bed. Even with the best free WiFi, its still free WiFi, and speeds are left to be desired... especially with me and my HD monitors. In order to not sap power, this is a strategy I've been using for large...

    Inverters

I bought a Reliable Power 3000W pure sine inverter. It's performed excellently, with my only complaint being the DC volt meter has voltage drop at loads not representative of the batteries. Cheapest Chinese one on Ebay -- $330 shipping included. Bolts down nicely.

    Public sources for battery recharging

I didn't have my solar mounting brackets for a week and I'm a heavy user. My solution? I hooked my car battery/alternator up to an extra light switch and to my battery bank, of which I switched on when I drove to charge the batteries. Poor mans battery isolator. Don't leave it on! *cringe at...

Does anyone use a Prius or other hybrid battery?

Their not Li-Ion or any variant, but NiMH. It's kind of like a middleground on cost, weight, price, and dischargability.

How do you bolt down a solar panel?

So I had a sheet metal roof on my Econoline, and decided to go the Z bracket route. I ended up buying 4 Z101 Compression Brackets from EcoFastenSolar, which have worked out well for me. They're nice and heavy duty which is great for a humongous panel like mine. I had a bit of scare where I...

Does anyone use a Prius or other hybrid battery?

They have a 1.3 kWh capacity and are only 93 lb or so. They are 200 V or so by default, but are dry cells so you could probably rewire them easyish to be 12, 24, 36, or 48 V. (I'd choose 48 V if there was a good inverter, less power loss I think). Has anyone done this before? I recently...

Does anyone here have laundry equipment?

I saw a box truck with one of those spinning laundry vents in a Walmart parking lot the other day. I was tempted to go and ask, but I decided not to intrude. Does anyone here have laundry equipment in their vehicles? You'd need a split phase inverter to power the 240 V models (which are all of...
