Seems to me.. ice is best when off the grid part time

This morning the fridge is about 41-42 degrees since running on propane overnight (I have a fridge thermometer). But then again, it cooled down to 70 degrees or less over night outside. During the day yesterday it was about 92 degrees. My van is currently parked under a steel roof carport and...

Seems to me.. ice is best when off the grid part time

Well my ice chest fits on the other side of the dinette I put in (had the sofa option, some had dinette). It also fits between the front seats should I need to get into the under seat storage (water heater, a bit of storage).

A small "Truck Fridge" is about $550-600 and runs on 12v only...

Well 12v did nothing it seems. Trying on propane now. Maybe it'll work on that since that happens sometimes on RV fridges.

Seems to me.. ice is best when off the grid part time

I have a Class B.... but the fridge is spotty, much like the old used one I put in the 60s Shasta I had. It'll go down to 40 for a day then goes up to 60 and hangs there. I don't understand it. Anyhow... the house I'm about to get out of (selling short sale, filed chapter 7), the central AC went...

    MOTORHOME FAILURE!!!

Wow, sorry to hear for sure.

This makes me worried about mine. I have at least $6000 in mine and the only thing (almost) that isn't new is the engine. Sure, a Chrysler 360 wouldn't cost $3000 for a good used one.. but still. Might be $2000 at least with labor. I could buy another complete...

    taking the plunge

I just have a hard time justifying $100 a month for phone+internet year round. That's over 10% of my monthly income. Now, if when I go to Quartzsite as planned and there's no Sprint signal, I may activate my AT&T HTC Freestyle and use that with a throwaway number just for the month(s) I am...

Guess where the $1.25mil is gonna come from? Raised rates. No wonder they suddenly rolled out that "Share everything" crap last year.

It is unfortunate that only Sprint an TMobile are the major carriers offering unlimited data on Smartphones now. Both Verizon and AT&T have killed it...

    Dogs , strangers, and wildlife

The bathroom in mine is sectioned off with a door. Traveling alone, a dog can make use of the passenger seat as their bed.

There's no real no way to know how a dog will bark until you expose it to the environment it's going to be living in. It might be better with a puppy since...

    Dogs , strangers, and wildlife

I may try to find a puppy later on once I am in my van. That way it can grow up and be adjusted to living that lifestyle.

If one is fully grown, they'll be used to living in a house with a lot of space and might effect them negatively to be confined to what amounts to the size of a...

    Cheapest iPhone - jailbroken

Not sure about iphone but the androids can use sprint, AT&T or Verizon depending on the model. They aren't rerally unlimited data anyway. It's a bold faced lie. Net10 has admitted now that the "unlimited" now means 1.5GB on AT&T SIMs. I expect Verizon devices on straight talk to...

    Dogs , strangers, and wildlife

Seeing as how I will mostly be in urban areas that won't be an option.

Even in a rural area, I don't trust any dog under my care to be unleased. Refurbished Klu by Curtis 7" screen 4GB Android 4.0 (ICE) tablet at Frys Electronics for $58

    The 16GB Nexus 7 is $200. 32GB is $250. That's for WIFI only ones. For 3G ones, it's $300 for the 32GB ones (no 16GB model).

I'd probably be happy with the 16GB model but who knows... $50 more for twice the storage. Like you said, no other expansion.

I have a 32GB micro SD card in...

    Dogs , strangers, and wildlife

I have entertained the idea of having a dog.

My deal is.. I like medium to large sized breeds a lot, especially labradors. There is a very nice black lab that wanders around by the local Dollar General (clearly owned, has a colar and tag). It's a small town and probably lives over behind...

Refurbished Klu by Curtis 7" screen 4GB Android 4.0 (ICE) tablet at Frys Electronics for $58

If I ever decide to get a tablet, it'll be a Google Nexus. They seem to be the cheapest and best spec'd tablet (for the price) out there.

    taking the plunge

You may want to read my blog post about Virgin Mobile/Boost (on Sprint's network). You can get tethering for $10 (Boost) or $15 (Virgin) with unlimited data. Not unlimited FAST data, but unlimited data all the same. It beats $30 capped tethering of post paid plans and ends up being WAY cheaper...

The American Winter & Utiliy Bills

No one would accept section 8 then. As it is, many landlords won't accept section 8. Landlords are not required by law to accept people on it so many don't, fearing undesirables will move in and trash the place.
