    New Mexico Park Pass????

From what I've read NM state parks have gotten very crowded because of the good deal. Might be hard to get a hookup.

    Two Ideas

Something worth considering. If you drive to Mexico in a car, you must drive that car out by the end of your 180 day tourist card. However a RV, whether a motorhome, trailer, or van camper, can get a 10 year permit and be left in Mexico if you needed to fly home. A trailer's tow vehicle must...

    Two Ideas

Considering both of these. In Mexico the gov't controls oil with it's own national company, Pemex. It has Pemex stations all over the country, and these are usually spotless clean where one can park for free in a guarded parking lot as well as eat at a restaurant, pay a small fee to take a...

    Prius

Got an idea after watching guy on YouTube converting his Prius V into a camper. His solution was to remove rear seats, build a storage box with a hinged board that folded out with front seats pushed all the way forward and straps hanging from headrests to support the folded out part. My idea...

    Cheap living in RV parks

I grew up in Leesburg, love the Forest! One thing about it though, last time I was there around 2000, is the mosquitoes. If I named one thing I don't miss about Florida it's the bugs.

    Cheap living in RV parks

Google RV Park Reviews and pull up a website that does just that. Most RV Parks in a given town or city are rated by RVers who stayed there. You can get a pretty good sense of quality, price, and amenities from the reviews. One of the biggest problems with RV Parks lately is they are filled...

    Cheap living in RV parks

Hi VanGirl, That price was at the Hitching Post RV Park in Deming back in 2000-2001. I imagine they're a bit more expensive now. Not much in the way of amenities other than hookups and a bathroom/laundry. They were however in a convenient area of town, although the I-10 and rail yard noise...

    Cheap living in RV parks

I had a space in Eagle Pass, TX that rented for $190 a month, $150 for 4 months in the winter due to less electric use since it was cooler. That was electric included, plus very good 70 channel Warner cable included too. Absolutely no amenities, and 30 feet from busy 4 lane road, but best deal...

    State Parks

Thanks for the opinions, didn't know about the possibility of limited hours. I really want to travel for retirement, but as affordably as possible. If it costs too much may move to Central America but think I can do this for less than $1000 a month.

    State Parks

Another option I'm considering is camping fulltime on some cheap land near Terlingua, Tx. I'd take off for a high elevation area in the summer. Problem is that it's so remote that to get groceries, etc would do alot of driving anyways. And probably more there than with the state parks idea...

    State Parks

I was using St. George as an example, but good thing about Utah is that they have higher elevation areas to visit in the summer. Texas has a similar deal but Texas state parks tend to be more away from population areas. Utah has quite a few parks near population centers. Planning to use a...

    State Parks

I was looking at annual passes for state parks of various states and got to thinking about possible strategies. For example Utah has a $75 annual day use pass. Some state parks in Utah are fairly close to major towns. One is 3 miles outside of St.George, for example, and provides restrooms...

    South Dakota Residency (my experience)

Thank you for the very good info. Looking at the Trailer Life forum over the years I knew some fulltimers prefer SD to TX, which seem to be the two main states RVers switch residency to. TX has the headquarters of Escapees, the biggest fulltime RVer club, which seems to be the primary...

    Yeti cooler questions

For what it's worth Camping Life Magazine tested coolers in an article a few years back and the Yeti far outperformed the others. They said it isn't a refrigerator, but it's very close.

    Prius

Hi Suanne, There are some interesting options coming soon. Ford has a revamped Transit Connect that will do better than 30 mpg with one of it's 2 offered engines in 2014. And Dodge's Ram division is bringing over the Fiat Doblo, a small cargo van, called the Promaster C here. If they bring...

    Prius

The hybrid version doesn't need to be plugged in to charge it. Charges itself with the onboard gas engine. I know from past experience reading other forums that most folks that are into this lifestyle are very much against purchasing anything new. To me it's a matter of usage. If I were...

anybody living in travel trailers with no truck to haul them?

I asked both Uhaul and Ryder a few years back and they said they didn't allow it. I lived in a 26' tt for 12 years and moved every 2 years or so with my job. I've used people who lived in the RV park, people who advertised on Craigslist, and national transport companies like Horizon. The best...

    Soon Retired

You may be thinking of the Honda Element eCamper by Ursa Minor. They've recently come up with a top for 4 door Jeep Wranglers too. Got to love the Aussies. Too many of our manufacturers think in terms of trying to maximize profit while they tend to come up with unique solutions. Probably the...

    Soon Retired

Hi Suanne, The Oztent is a huge favorite in Australia. Years ago I was wishing it was here in the States and then they got a U.S. dealer. It has built-in guy lines for staking it down, does very well in the wind. There's a huge thread on the Expedition Portal Forum about it. Here's an idea...
