Never saw one of these mattresses for a car, or other..

I use Japanese futons. They roll up nicely and are filled with cotton so good in both hot and cold.

    Ducky, a VW Bus

18' deep, 3' dia, 50 or so years old, about 100' in the woods. If I can find a pump with sufficient head lift I could drop a line in the river about 50' beyond the well until the river freezes (if it recovers any, the 2.5 years of drought has really done a number on it :( ), it's about 20' below...

    Ducky, a VW Bus

That's kinda how we survived Sept-Dec last year: rechargeable USB shower, 50 2.5gal water containers (recycled from drinking water), and about every 4 days making a trip up to the fire\rescue station for water. Got so that I could fill 50 of them in about 15 minutes. Used the shower while up...

    Ducky, a VW Bus

Don't we know it. We'd wait if we could. We are currently renting, been here 8 years, dug well went dry last September, didn't recover until April, and then wasn't fully recovered but enough to move back from the one room apartment we were in (landlord put us up attached to his house for the...

    Ducky, a VW Bus

Update: got the fuel system back up and running. Ended up replacing more than the fuel pump (tank, a hidden hard line, vents) but it is all good. More done in the driveway (hopefully) means less done in the middle of nowhere :). Rebuilt the distributor, started getting some timing scatter...

Do locals not like van dwellers?

I also live in a rural area. We don’t have a post office, a Main St, traffic lights, street lights, we aren’t even a town. Here there’s lots of old fire roads, turnoffs, etc. where people boondock, even two businesses in the area (food/gas) that used to let people bunk for the night in the dirt...

Need some opinions on buying a Dodge Class B

Not sure if it helps any but last year I had my 360 (2001 5.9 with 311k on it) rebuilt locally by a machine shop, $2400 with after $800 core for the long block. That was rebuilt heads, all gaskets\seals, rebuilt rods, .030 overbore, new cam\lifters\timing chain, water pump, new exhaust manifolds...

    Law enforcement question

Look at any VW Westfalia bus. The rear windows are present but blocked by cabinets (depending on the year and interior model, left, right, or both). You are fine.

    Backup\rearvirw camera

I use a homebrewed wireless backup camera system using old iPhones, but it isn't adhoc. I have a router that is dedicated to the system. I looked at commercial wireless setups, the reviews are not all that great.

The wrong way to acquire an ambulance

I’m on the board of our EMS squad. We are starting to prepare to replace out aging 2013 Fords. The cost of a reasonably equipped type 3 - without supplies or radios - will hit $300k. Add things like a PowerLoad and there’s $400k. Add the supplies, a Lucas, McGrath, radios, and you’re looking at...

    Charge controllers

You’ve had a few well-respected, knowledgeable members give their thoughts. Definitely take that info for consideration, read the links they dropped. I did a ton of research before I dipped my toes into solar. I went cheap, cheap. It for me this was a POC and never planned as a long term...

Looking at new tire types and costs..

Those are a size that many in the VW Bus world seek for tires, with an 8 ply sidewall (Commercial) rating due to the loads (minimum tire load rating of 1540lbs). The selection is slim in 14", but they are out there. The most popular are: General Grabber AT Hankook Optimo & RA08 Achilles Desert...
