I have traveled with a hitch mounted dual sport motorcycle in the past. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving a small motorcycle parked at the trail head for any length of time due to concerns of it being stolen.

I also use a 35 Amp-hr Deep Cycle (Trolling Motor) battery in my Van, recharged through the cigarette lighter outlet. 35 Amp-hrs x 12 volts x 50% usage = 210 Watt-hours. The battery and case cost less than $100. Get the wiring from Harbor Freight or Amz. A low cost alternative if your handy.

If you can, try it for a weekend or more to see if it could work. The space between the wheel wells can be awful tight!

My advise is wait for this temporary period of vehicular shortages and increased prices to subside before purchasing any vehicle.
