Each leg of a parallel circuit increases the amps, and the total voltage is very slightly less than the individual batteries. There are always losses in any electrical circuit. But it remains nominally 12 volts.

Just another thought...People who wire 2 6v golf batteries are outputting 12v?  Now I'm confused....If I place a wire on the pos terminal (12v battery)and attach to the other pos terminal on 12v battery 2.  Do the same on the ground side. Ground battery 1 to chassis, and battery 2 pos to positive bus panel.  Output =12v.   Does this sound right?

If correct, then how are people wiring to get 12v from 2 6v batteries?

I know this sounds basic, just don't want to blow myself up!

This is easily googled as there is tons of stuff on this but in general:

Parallel increases Amps
Series increase voltage

2 12 volts wired in parallel increases amps @ 12 volts

2 6 volts wired in series creates a 12 volt battery bank now if you take a second pair of 6 volts wired in series you now have 2 12 volt battery banks........
Now if you wire those 2 banks in parallel you have created 2 - 12 volt batteries that will now increase amps..........
