This question is only for we who are currently living in our vehicle of choice. What are you living in and how did you make the choice? Would you choose the same again? If not what would you go to? Points for comprehensive replies.

I'm currently living in a 19 foot Coachman travel trailer, but only to 'train' to live in something smaller eventually. My goal is to be tow-less. I may go with a camper shell next. Camper shells are nothing out of the ordinary really, but it's nice to share.

For me, less truly is more. The less I have physically, the more freedom I gain spiritually and mentally. This is what I'm actually going for:

http://www.palominorv.com/Maverick/

To be boldly honest, for me, the journey is all north of the border, not south...

" Egotist: a person more interested in himself than in me "

Hahahahahaha.... got it!

Corinne - were were looking at the Mavericks ourselves: it was the 2902 that gave us the itch for a TC...

Seraphim, I just love these truck campers. That is what I will be going with next. However, the newer ones are fairly pricey even more than I paid for my little trailer. I may go with a nice used one once I am ready.

Something to shoot for.

We have a 25' class C. This is our second ( actually fourth but two of them had short lives ) small class C. Small enough to fit in forest campgrounds , boondocking locations and city streets. Small enough that we don't have to tow a car. Small enough that we aren't real conspicuous but big enough to have a roomy bathroom and large holding tanks.

What are you living in and how did you make the choice?

I have a 2007 Chevy Express cargo van (standard length). I chose it for stealth, gas mileage, ability to build out the interior, price, and 'cause it's a Chevy.

If I had to do it again, I would buy another Chevy Express. I might be tempted to go with a wheelchair van (high top conversion) but don't consider it a must have. The lower roof makes it easier for me to work on the roof rack w/ solar panel. A longer van would have been nice but I do like the maneuverability of the Express. In short, would I buy the same van again?... Not sure but more than likely. It's been a good machine and the price was nice.

It's just fine for a single person. If I had a significant other, it would just be too cramped. For a grumpy middle aged hermit, it's practically the Hearst Castle.

As for me I am living in the RV of my choice, a 17' Casita travel trailer. It is all fiberglass and built like two bathtubs one on top of the other. No rust, no dings, no leaks. It is lite weight [2400 lbs] and shaped like an egg so it is rather aerodynamic for slicing through the wind giving good gas mileage. It only has one axel and is completely self contained. My wife and I love it, but if I were alone I would chose a Palamino Bronco pop up camper. I could go further off the beaten track with a pop up camper. The end of the road is as far as most can go, but if you climb into your Paraglider harness you may find places that equal the delites of Shangra La.

I live in a 1 ton hi-top van.
Reasons

Wanted the head room.
Wanted to be able to pull a trailer if needed.
Needed the ability to travel rough side roads & trails for work.
Needed the flexibility and maneuverability of a standard platform vehicle I could live in & work out of.

gus

I currently own a Ford E-350 passenger van (without the back seats).
I chose this one for the flexibility just in case this van living thing doesn't work out, I can always use it as a transport vehicle.

I always viewed this one as a first stage vehicle. Therefore, I haven't really made too much effort to customize it. I essentially just threw in whatever I had in my apartment and made it fit.

http://rodwanderer.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-new-futon-arrangement-i-took-out.html

Second stage vehicle I would like an actual class B.

If they were cheap enough and available, my dream would be to get those Mercedes Sprinter vans.

that's the next step.

Also, anything I plan to get in the future would have to include a high roof so I can stand.

'90 F-250 w. an 8' truck camper. If I was in a position to do so, I'd tear off the box and build my own camper on the back. Truck campers are handy 'n all, but generally heavy and poorly insulated. They also don't help with the vehicle's CG.. but make for a more 'flexible' rig. If a person is into camping in 4x4 country, they're hard to beat. ..Willy.
I'm in a 6x10 converted cargo trailer. Very happy with it for these reasons:

Small: I don't need much room so it has plenty but not too much

Light: weighs 1300 lbs empty

Tough: aluminum skin won't rust, get damaged on tiny backroads

Cheap: $2500 brand new

Blank Space: built just how I wanted it with nothing extra

Flexible: I can leave it in storage and travel without it giving me the best of both worlds

Bob
