My fresh water lines froze somewhere up in the Texas Panhandle and when they thawed began dripping from the shower/toilet wall down over the blackwater tank and onto the ground. I decided to make the best of the situation and, rather than draining the tank to stop the dripping, to keep on as long as I could to have fresh water available for coffee and cats, so long as it lasted.

On the road again I was surprised by the numbers of windshield saviors and zero heroes who popped out of the woodwork. They'd see the drip at the rest stops or gas stations, call my attention to it, and when I told them what it was, they were universal in their proclamations. "NEVER NEVER NEVER allow water to drip out of your RV!" they cried. "It might be sewer water!"

"It isn't sewer water," I explained patiently. "It's fresh water from a broken water line."

"Nonono!" Ignoring my patient replies.

I pointed to one behind me gassing up while preaching at me, under the engine, presumably a condensation hose pouring water onto the concrete. "Do you suppose that might be sewage?"

Shriek!

Went in and was ahead of me in line when I got inside, telling the store clerk I was pouring sewage out on the pavement of their lot.

Naturally I got a lot of cold looks from the locals while I paid.

Probably there's something to be said for carrying a piece of cardboard and marking pen to tape over any problems of that sort with an arrow pointing and "FRESH WATER" so's to save one's self from the wrath of windshield saviors.
