Hi all. I'm a new member and this is my first post. I'm interested in this lifestyle , however there is one thing holding me back. I was hoping you all would be able to give me some recommendations.

I have two children that visit me every other weekend. I'm not sure what the best way would be to still maintain my visits with my children.

Easylife! Welcome to the CRVL forums!

Where do you live? Is weather going to be an issue? Can you take them camping or hiking? Depending on where you live there could be plenty of free or cheap camping.

How old are the kids? At about age 10 my so was in his own tent. We both enjoyed having our own space.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

A lot will depend on your location and the kids age. If they are driving let them bring their own van! I built a second camper which can be stored locally for like $20 a month and just hitch it up when the grandkids or their parents want to come. In good weather tents work fine.

Hi Cyndi!

I really like the campground idea. I think that could be a perfect choice for us when the weather is nice. I live in the midwest so we get cold winters. Maybe a motel could be an option for winter nights (i'm not sure we would all have enough room otherwise). Both my kids are in middle school.

Thanks so much for the reply and the advice - I really appreciate it!

Hey Bullfrog ::)

They are both in middle school, so not driving quite yet. I could try to convert a cargo trailer , I heard those things last forever. $20 a month for storage is incredible, if I shop around I wonder if I could be able to find something a little farther out in the country for better storage prices than here in the city.

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

It would be all about your traveling and returning to make their visit. You can't go total nomad travel and go very far but you sure can make it work for you. A campground is a great choice as it gives the kids something to do mostly, they have kid activities, amenities etc. Every other weekend is not that hard of a time commitment and it sounds like you can easily make it work for you guys! good luck!

Educational activities! I used to homeschool two of my children, and we went to state historic parks, historic highways (California's Mother Lode Hwy. 49) and a lot of museums - especially the Children's Discovery Museum. There are so many fun things for children to do. My children loved traveling and sight-seeing with me even though all we had was a tiny economy car. I slept in the driver's seat and one child slept in the passenger seat, and the other on the backseat (they traded off) and though we didn't have much, we saw and experienced a lot, and have the most wonderful and treasured memories of that time together.

Legal seating and seat belted passengers can be addressed with a cargo van and passenger van alike and, personal space notwithstanding, there doesn't appear to be anything more than carrying on as you are now. It may actually be a more convenient event for you and a more unique experience for them in that your kitchen et cetera will be with you wherever you drive to.
