At the end of April I was tired of looking at over priced vans in the Kansas City area and decided to hit the road. My research indicted I should either head north into Iowa or Nebraska or south with the cold weather we were having I it was an easy decision to head south. The first van I made a deal on was in Fort Scot Kansas. It was a 2006 commercial van with windows but bare walls. I made a fair deal with the salesman but wanted to have a mechanic check it out. He said the van was in great shape, new break lines, calipers, rotors and ball joints, but there was a problem it had a exhaust leak where the exhaust meets the manifold it was missing two bolts, likely sheared. I wasn't to concerned the dealer had a full repair shop, however they refused to do any work on the vehicle at the agreed price so I said bye and hit the road. I figured I would quickly hear back from them but the next day I found a van just south of Tulsa. It is a 2011 Chey Express 1500 and was a passenger van that was converted into a mobile office for an insurance adjuster. It has a solenoid installed and a 600W commercial grade Vanner inverter. There was also a fairly new deep cycle AGM but the inverter was left on and the battery was down to 6v. I tried to bring it back and after several attempts it will hold 12.5v, however if I try to use the inverter all the red light start flashing. I put a good battery on it and the inverter works fine, what a waste of a good battery. My wife wanted me to take the desk and sliding chair to the dump but I got on line to see if it had any value. The desk and chair cost $2300 new so it won't be going to the dump.
I'm headed to the Western Slope of Colorado in a couple of weeks so I just have time to get the basics done. I built a bed and a large box for my hitch carrier to store a generator, propane bottles and gas. I ordered a Cat Heater almost two months ago but the guy who builds them said it won't be ready by June. Likely only needed on the Grand Mesa at night, need to keep the air warm for my CPAP. If it gets cool the humidified water condenses in the hose and I get a respiratory infection, I don't want another visit to the urgent care like last trip. I'm working on insulated coverings for the windows and installing a hitch.
