So am still looking at the different BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD) plans and the company called UPPWIRELESS popped up on the radar. Have an IPHONE5 from verizon, so unlocked for GSM.
Has anyone tried the $15 a month plan? Of course its not something to completely rely on, but at that price its not really that bad.
Here is a little comparison:
$15 gets you unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 1GB of data at 4G speed with a GSM simm, monthly. Will you get that for actual service? Not likely.
BUT.....
1) You can get a tmobile simm as a backup and use their $3 a day as a backup. Dont have good UPPWIRELESS coverage? pop in the TMOBILE simm while at a wifi hotspot and activate for the day.
2) Use WIFI for your phone and data calls. I use FRING on wifi and it works great for $0.01 per minute calls.
of course you can get a TMOBILE 100 minute talk, and 2GB data plan for $30 as a one time offer with a new GSM SIMM. BYOD plan. Be careful as this is offered once on any new simm, and it might go away fast.
The only other comparison I can make is the $25 per month talk and text (no data) plan that CricketWireless has , that will work with a BYOD situation. You can use your data on WIFI only with this plan.
Just trying to compare some of the barebones plans to each other. You can get one of these plans barebones, and then get some kind of DATA ONLY plan with a wifi data access point with high data rates. Then you have hopefully the best combined coverage costs.
The millenicom (aka Verizon) wireless hotspot plan for 20GB of data at $90 per month should give you enough extra data speeds to combine with a cheap $15 to $25 to $30 from UPPWIRELESS or CRICKETWIRELESS (aka AT&T) or TMOBILE so you have some interesting combined solution.
