The air was on and as I went to get into the back I noticed a small shock when i grabbed the aluminum door frame. I tested it with the air off and no shock. Its currently plugged into my house. Anyone have any insight?

Put an outlet tester in the extension cord. My guess is the socket you are plugged into is wired backward.

Actually, the outlet you plug into should be a GFCI outlet as the cord is in a wet (outdoor) environment.

yes make sure to let us know what you find. so do you have the extension only powering the AC? highdesertranger

Its the built in AC on the camper. I’ve never noticed it shocking ever. I’m going to hook my generator up to it and see if it does the same thing shortly

They are trying to tell you that the outlet in the sticks and bricks house you are plugged into is itself very likely the cause of the issues. That when someone wired it they got it wrong. That happens more often than you might realize. You can get a small circuit tester that has little LED lights on it from the hardware store. You plug that into that outlet in the house. The lights on it will indicate if it is wired correctly and if not what is wrong.

A lot of nomadics who plug into shore power carry one in their tool box. Then before they plug into a 120v outlet they use the tester to make sure the outlet it is wired correctly. Quick and easy way to find out and the tester is not an expensive item and every hardware type of store has them.

here is an image of what one of those testers looks like.

You guys are correct. I plugged it into my generator. No zap, plugged it into the house, ZAP, took it out and plugged it into a campsite, no zap! I’ll look at the plug when I get home. Thanks for all the help everyone

How gorgeous she is!!

Since you will be doing the rewiring, the easy way to remember which wire goes where is the hot (black) wire always goes to the brass colored screw, black-brass, both B's. The white (neutral) goes to silver.

Please change it to a GFCI outlet to prevent any further problems. You may not want the expense but the life you save may not be your own.

If you look at the face of an outlet, it has a wide slot and a narrow slot. The wide slot is the neutral side and the small one is hot. You will notice the brass screw is on the narrow slot side.

The circuit tester Maki posted is pretty cheap and is needed if you are going to work on outlets or plug into shore power. Check shore power before plugging the van in.

I will out in a gfi plug tomorrow while I’m at hoMe. And see about picking up one of thise testers
