Looking for a good set of tires for a 2017 GMC van. All terrain

B.F.Goodrich, Goodyear, Cooper, and Michelin are all top brands. I would stick with them. you don't give much info like, what type? highway, all terrain? what size? are you looking for a used set? go to the "Newcomers corner" and give us an intro. highdesertranger

All-terrain tires almost never come with mileage warranties, so if you find a brand that does have a mileage warranty, jump on it. The differences between A/T tires are otherwise just hair splitting. If none have a mileage warranty, then just go with a name brand that has a deal going.

1/2 ton vans sometimes come with passenger tires. If you are going to use it off road at all, truck tires rated for load range E are the best.
Info like what exactly you have and what size your manual calls for would be helpful.
I have Nokia tires made in Europe that were the only 15" tires I could find in my size that were load range E. No problems with them so far. about 6,000 miles on them. Some pretty rough roads like going to the racetrack in Death Valley.

Speaking of tires. I went to see about replacing a tire that is new but flattened as soon as it was put on. The man I spoke with suggested I put AT tires om my Scamp since I was going to drive on rugged terrain. But wouldn't I have to put AT tires on my SUV, as well. That as never been an issue but I also never towed the Scamp before. ???

if you are planning on any amount of off pavement driving, more than just short little off pavement. then yes both the tow vehicle and the trailer should have LT tires. highdesertranger

Thank you. I might need to look at some prices then. I just had new tires put on and they were costly. I imagine AT tires will be even more so.

Well the bad news is with standard passenger car tires on roads with sharp rocks as some BLM roads are you will get flats. So a plug kit to repair them and a small 12 volt air compressor a necessary. The good news is if you bought them at a major chain like Sam's Club or ect. they usually come with a milage road hazard policy based on wear so you can get a new tire fairly cheaply. In fact with heavier loads mine usually wore out at 30,000 miles and had a 60,000 mile life so I could replace them with new ones for a little more than half what new ones cost. With load range E mud and snow tires I have had no flats but they did cost almost twice as much to purchase and to my surprise lasted 28,000 miles but I did watch tire wear and pressures much more closely after spending so much. Places like Quartsite where hundreds of vehicles have driven and most rocks are round were no problem for regular highway tire as far as flats just less traction. Places with sharp rocks like the Henry Mountains I average 2 flats a day with a regular highway tire. In my case the load range E mud tire makes sense as I avoid flats and get better traction when I can afford them. It just depends on where you want to boon dock.

Just a head's up on load range E tires. I did a lot of research and found 245/75R/16 LT load range E, all terrain tires  w/40,000 mile tread wear warranty at Pep Boys. They're made by Cooper in the USA. I paid a hair under 500 bucks installed. (Buy three get the forth tire free). I didn't get the road hazard warranty but I probably should have.

I've been driving on them for about 4000 miles and they're wearing great. Due to all the tread, they ride really good on asphalt.

I bought them for 3 reasons. The price, made by Cooper and I can replace the tires just about anywhere in the country by Pep Boys.

They're called Futura Scrambler API, Pep Boys house brand. They also come in other load ranges but my truck calls for load range E.

Are they  the best money can buy? Probably not but I'm happy so far

Well, this is definitely a consideration, now. I'd never had to buy tires before and so I went with what the man at T&T advised.
( I should have told him I travel...) My husband usually bought Cooper tires. Did not recall that until now. I'll know next time. Meanwhile, I think I should practice taking a tire off on the Scamp and replacing it. Better to know how that might go if I need to do it down the road- on the road. I'm also rethinking loading my canoe on top of the Scamp- I think I'll keep that atop my SUV.

also in the meantime when driving off pavement with street tires, slow down. I mean way slow. sharp rocks are worse at speed. also right after they grade a road is bad, slow down. in fact slow down no matter what tires you have. highdesertranger

I just purchased a set of Ironman All Country AT LT225/75R16 E 10ply for my chevy express.

They came with free road hazard. Up to 2 years or 2/32 whichever comes first.

$440 installed.

"$440 installed."

$440.00 for #4 is amazing! I wonder why #4 regular tires cost me $600...? That doesn't seem right. :dodgy:

I think I went to the wrong tire place. These were the least expensive. Lesson learned. Next time, AT and I'll research, first.

You can get them online for $93 each / shipped free to an installer. Then it's just how much do you pay the installer.

So at $440, that's like $68 installed and old tire disposed of. Which is probably about average.

They have decent tread 16/32.  I'm happy. Just see how long they last?

I didn't order them online. The shop I went to just had decent prices.  They actually wanted $460, but I got them to knock off $20. The price included tax as well.

Another local shop wanted $560 installed for the exact same tires.
