I wish I new then what I know now. This is a story about a young free couple that has it right.

The video is good. Great use of crates and boxes for their stair steps and I had never thought of galvanized roofing to make a shower. Just listen to that diesel they tow it with. I wonder how much it weights, I'm guessing around 7700 pounds

I've seen quite a few tiny houses, but I particularly like this one for the clever use of space and the way they designed and use the storage boxes under the couch. I also like the repurposed wood and use of crates. Neat!

We had considered a tiny house, but then we became just me and a van ended up being the better option.

While reading the article, my most immediate thought was that for the traveling they are planning to do, a tiny house is not the best solution, an RV/TT would be a better choice. But at the end, turns out they are traveling as ambassadors for a tiny house company, so that makes sense.

When in planning stages, it was for seasonal movement -- north for the summer, south for the winter -- planning to park more or less permanently for the season at one location or another. Other than a vardo style structure or lightweight gypsy wagon build I wouldn't want to be towing that much material and weight around some kind of grand tour which could be better accomplished with an RV/TT... or van/step van build out.

When I see something like that I wonder how it will hold up after bouncing around going down the road. In other words, will it shake apart. It is cute. But a school bus has more room, is cheaper and will go down the road without shaking apart.

Great argument there Bruce. ^^^

but with a bus, you've got another vehicle to insure, fuel & maintain...but if you're gonna be parked for longer stays, then this may be a good alternative.

I suppose though, (more importantly for some folks), is that even though it's such a tiny dwelling, that they 'feel' more normal living in an actual house, and not some 'Old Bus!!'.

(but I'd much rather have the bus though too!!)

I agree with the good use of space and duality of things, especially the sky light that opens, so you not only get fresh air, you have an escape hatch.
I imagine it has full hook ups too?

It has a composting head, so basically it just a big outhouse.

If it were built using ordinary house carpentry techniques, I'm sure you are right.

But keep in mind that man can build wooden boats that can cross oceans and survive massive storms. And we were still building and flying plywood combat aircraft in World War 2.

Something built using boat and/or aircraft construction techniques would hold up just fine.

But it would take longer and be more labor intensive.

That's if they build the tiny home using boat building techniques. Every one I've seen on the TV shows is just built like a normal house.

Too heavy.
Too expensive.
Too tall...watch out for those low bridges (and branches)...next you tube sensation!
Too many restrictions on where they can be placed.
Too fragile...the potholes will shake that thing apart.
Can't go off road (see above), so what's the point?

If ya just have to sleep in a loft, get a Class C or a 5th Wheel!

I've watch some of those tiny house shows also,,and when i see them using nails i just shake my head.
