This is my new (to me) 2001 GMC Savana 3500. It is "My Escape Pod" Now that my mechanic is finished with it. It is my turn. With the help of a friend, we removed the 15 passenger seating. The inside has been scrubbed.( It probably had not been done in 16 years.) I will now, as soon I as can heat the inside to work in there, install the interlocking rubberized mats on the floor so that I can get some scrap carpeting to put on top of it. I found a deal on those silvery looking emergency blankets (tissue paper thin) which I am going to wrap around some lite weight boards and mount them on the windows with velcro for privacy and warmth. Them I am going to hang some thermal drapes. Then all I need is some bedding, a hot plate, a cooler, and a bucket for pooping.
I am going to start by camping only in places that have electric because I I have some medical stuff I need to plug in a night. If I really love this all, I'll eventually get solar gear so I can go where I please (almost).
Aside from camping and reconnecting with nature, I plan to travel to places where my music can help. I was the musician in residence at a local hospital for almost 4 years prior to needing to work on my own healing. I have been recovering from a series of serious health challenging for a while now and I am done waiting to heal. I still have 6 of my 9 lives left and I have no intention of wasting them waiting for strength and mobility that I may or may not get back.
I may be doing less, but the operative wording here is doing.
As a footnote, I had actually emailed with Bob and had planned to try camping in an SUV first because, at 70, I've never camped before. My idea of roughing it was a cabin on a ridge with utilities. Sadly, my wife really has no interest in any of this, but who knows, her attitude may eventually change. Anyway, the van appeared and since I don't believe in coincidence, I guess this is meant to be.
Peace to all,
